The Client Licensing Representative (CLR) acts as an internal and external liaison for in-house licensing services offered to clients, telemarketing vendors, and Assurant licensed employees.  The CLR works primarily with the business units, Accounts Executives, clients, legal department and internal operational areas to mitigate risks for the company and its clients by monitoring and insuring compliance with state licensing laws and regulations. CLRs are assigned to specific business units and clients.  The CLR coordinates with the departments processing, data and audit support teams to assist in corporate and client risk mitigation.  This is achieved by insuring clients obtain and maintain the proper licenses and appointments with the appropriate Assurant underwriting companies for products being sold, performing audits, and keeping abreast of state licensing laws and regulations for each U.S. jurisdiction and advising clients of changes affecting their business. This role creates and assigns work to all licensing units, documents and solves problems, and streamlines functions. The CLR position is intended to progress based upon level of knowledge, ability to resolve complex licensing issues, and eventually serving as a resource and mentor to newer CLRs.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

  • Maintains relationships with clients to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the licensing process.
  • Manages client implementations for the licensing department by coordinating with the client, the business, and other support and operational areas.
  • Builds and maintains a positive relationship with key client contacts. 
  • Enhances communication process for keeping clients and business unit apprised of licensing regulatory and compliance issues.
  • Responsible for client presentations, conference calls, and meetings.  Recaps all verbal conversations involving due dates, changes in processes or deliverables in writing.  All documentation is saved electronically.
  • Ensures that invoices sent to clients are accurate, and that open aged receivables are addressed and resolved.
  • Researches and resolves licensing questions and problems.  Resources used are senior CLRs, the licensing system, state websites, individuals at the departments of insurance, and on-line subscription services.
  • Works with senior CLRs to develop and maintain supporting materials that can be used by others in the department.
  • Troubleshoots issues through to completion with minimal guidance, on behalf of assigned business units and clients.
  • Manages integrity of client licensing data for compliance purposes by monitoring and evaluating client’s corporate and individual licensing status on a regular basis. 
  • Provides client and management with licensing compliance reports.
  • Audits each client no less than annually to ensure compliance.
  • Works with senior CLRs to complete projects as assigned.
  • Researches changes in licensing rules and regulations and analyses impact on licensed clients. 
  • Drafts communication to clients and business unit to inform them of regulatory changes that impact their business. 
  • Uses existing report templates to create client status reports on license and appointment progress for the business entity and the individuals.
  • Analyzes and evaluates information and state requirements specific to each of the 51 US jurisdictions for development of licensing requirements documents. 
  • Works with the AE, the business unit, and other departments within Assurant to obtain information necessary to develop the licensing strategy specific to each client, based on Assurant product(s), compensation, sales methods, and claims adjudication.  
  • Works with senior licensing staff to research, prepare and distribute customized written licensing requirements documents for each client based on product, filing status, compensation, sales method, claims adjudication and state laws and regulations specific to each of the 51 US jurisdictions.
  • Responsible for the proper set-up of client, branch locations and contract information in the licensing system. 
  • Responsible for set-up of licensing fee structure in licensing system. Ensures this information remains up to date to facilitate accurate allocation of licensing expenses to the business units.
  • Coordinates and completes tasks associated with execution of the client’s corporate and individual licensing strategy.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 4-year equivalent work experience
  • 4+ years of related insurance experience
  • 2+ years Project Management experience (can be school projects as well)
  • 2+ years of experience performing analytical functions
  • 2+ years of client representative experience
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft office suites software, this includes moderate Excel totaling minimum two years’ experience.
  • 2+ years of experience performing regulatory research and analysis preferred
  • 1+ year of licensing or compliance experience a plus
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Ability to adapt procedures, processes and techniques to more complex problems and issues
  • Flexibility to prioritize, balance, and respond to competing needs within the organization
  • Ability to learn new systems/processes and retain knowledge
  • Ability to clearly articulate ideas and concepts, both verbally and written
  • Good presentation skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organization and prioritization skills
  • Applies advanced problem-solving skills

Pay Range:

$47,100.00 - $77,700.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
