Legal Counsel Sr - Carelon Health

Location: This position will work a hybrid model (remote and office). The Ideal candidate will live within 50 miles of one of our Elevance Health PulsePoint locations.

The Legal Counsel Sr - Carelon Health will be responsible for serving as the primary point of contact for tracking and resolution of issues related to the provision of clinical and network services to the Elevance affiliated health plans.  This will require completing a variety of routine and non-routine legal assignments and intermediate level projects independently and using professional legal concepts and principles in accordance with company and departmental objectives to solve challenging issues in practical ways. Works autonomously with regular collaboration and reporting to management. At this level the associate has developed a specific technical depth and/or breadth of organizational and industry legal issues.

How you will make an impact:

  • Project manage a wide range of issues, keeping detailed records of status and next steps in order to drive resolution and demonstrate responsiveness and accountability
  • Research legal principles and precedents.
  • Draft and execute legal documents.
  • Collaborate with lawyers and non-lawyers throughout the enterprise on initiatives and implementations.
  • Serves as a strategic partner with assigned clients.
  • Provides legal solutions to a wide range of difficult or new problems.
  • Develops recommendations and solutions that are thorough, practical, and consistent with organizational objectives, and engages with others in a proactive and collaborative manner.
  • Assesses and mitigates risk for familiar situations.
  • Reports to management any identified business exposure and associated risks as well as mitigation techniques being utilized. 
  • Establishes a proactive, engaged partnership with business leadership to prevent or reduce the unnecessary escalation of issues.
  • Operates within a matrixed organization, which includes both Carelon and Elevance leaders.
  • Manages multiple fast-moving projects in an organized manner, paying close attention to details.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires a JD, current license to practice law, and a minimum of 6 years of specific industry and/or technical legal experience post licensure; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.   

Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:

  • Health law experience required.
