Title: Prototype Engineer (grade: 8-10)
Report to: Engineering Manager – Nabari, in Japan
Basic Function:
The Prototype Engineer performs engineering work to efficiently provide engineering service to ensure quality and deliver on time, at a reasonable cost, according to the required specifications for prototype orders from customers and internal engineering departments.
This involves working with sales representatives and product engineers on defining prototype requirement, suppliers and internal production representatives on determining cost and delivery date, as well as quality assurance representative in completing shipping inspection.
Prototype engineer needs to perform the tasks as the supervisor's instructions based on the determined process on schedule.
Nature & Scope:
The incumbent will be expected to perform prototype engineering duties on many mechanical products related to power train, drive train and others. He / She is expected to work using assembly equipment and performance evaluation testers to deliver valid prototype builds. This will include:
· Confirming specifications with customers and engineers.
· Coordinating delivery dates between customers and the sales department.
· Discussing and clarifying production processes and quality processes with suppliers.
· Preparing quotes and ordering within the internal departments and suppliers.
· Creating prototype assembly manuals and ensuring correct assembly.
· Measure the prototype dimensions as acceptance inspection.
· Testing and evaluating the performance of prototypes.
· Collaborating with designers to design the fixtures needed to build the prototype.
· Create a control plan for preparing the prototype.
· Preparing inspection reports and submitting them to the customer.
Experience & Education:
· Knowledge of the drawing, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
· Experience of mechanical engineering or engineering related field.
· Knowledge of materials, heat treatment and manufacturing.
Principal Accountabilities:
· Confirmation of production method with engineer and suppliers.
· Perform quotation ordering work to suppliers.
· Negotiate lead times with external and internal related departments.
· Determine assembly fixture specification details with design group.
· Laser marking and packing for prototype shipment.
· Visit suppliers to confirm quality and production process.
· Develop new suppliers for new products.
