Position Summary
The CVRM (Cardiovascular Renal Metabolic, including Obesity & related conditions) Global Medical Digital Strategy & Innovation Director will play a pivotal role within the new Biopharmaceutical Medical (BPM) Scientific Communications (SciComms) function, responsible for developing and executing a dynamic digital strategy to enhance omnichannel scientific communications capabilities and organizational impact. This role will architect omnichannel solutions, drive digital transformation and the adoption of innovative technologies that empower medical teams and enable scalable, compliant, and high-impact scientific customer engagement. Reporting to the Senior Director, Global Medical Content Strategy, they will collaborate closely with Global and Local Market Medical teams as well as the broader Scientific Communications team to drive strategies and maximize opportunities across the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Strategy Leadership & Capability Development:
Develop, refine, and operationalize Global Medical digital strategies and capabilities that support omnichannel customer engagement, with a specific focus on CVRM Therapy Area goals.
Work closely with Medical Affairs teams to identify key areas to focus design and co-create scalable digital solutions that support the transformation of medical evidence and confidence activities.
Identify, pilot, implement and champion emerging technologies—including artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and advanced analytics—to drive omnichannel scientific engagement.
Drive the adoption of digital-first mindset and the delivery of global capabilities and standards for use by Global TAs and local markets through hands-on training, guidance and tools (e.g. Medical Digital Enablement Playbook)
Lead change management initiatives to drive adoption and cultural transformation.
Omnichannel Scientific Engagement:
Serve as CVRM Global Medical point of contact for seamless execution of strategy, including the delivery of digital campaigns/tactics
Partner with Global Medical and others in Scientific Communications function to deliver seamless, tailored, and scalable engagement through digital, virtual, social, web, and live platforms. Lead initiatives to ensure scientific communications meet the diverse needs of healthcare professionals, external stakeholders, advocacy groups, and internal teams.
Drive medically owned digital channels to ensure they are leveraged to maximum potential
Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the Advanced Medical Engagement Model and digital strategy (channel engagement, content transformation and advanced HCP analytics and insights)
Lead the translation of global digital strategy into locally executable, compliant, and measurable plans, ensuring strategies are designed “for local” from the outset.
Partner with CVRM Medical teams across priority markets to co-create adoption pathways and activation kits.
Establish feedback loops to bring local insights and performance data back into global roadmaps, iterating standards, content formats, and channel guidance to accelerate in-market execution and scale what works.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Stakeholder Alignment:
Collaborate extensively with cross-functional stakeholders in CDH, GBS, GCIT and across business units (OBU, RDU) to ensure medical digital strategy aligns with enterprise strategy; partner on driving adoption of common digital standards.
Align with Local market and GBS stakeholders to established Global to Local ways of working
Stay at the forefront of digital trends and best practices in medical scientific communications, actively sharing insights, innovations, and learnings across the organization.
Governance & Measurement:
Establish and maintain robust governance of all digital platforms, systems, and processes to ensure compliance with global/local regulatory requirements, corporate codes of conduct, and data privacy standards.
Develop and monitor digital performance metrics (adoption rate, engagement, operational efficiency, scientific impact), leveraging analytics, stakeholder feedback, and industry benchmarks to guide decisions and iterate rapidly.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in medical or health/life sciences, business, informatics, engineering, or related discipline
3+ years’ experience in digital strategy, transformation, technology adoption, or innovation leadership—preferably in medical, scientific, or pharmaceutical environments
Significant experience with digital/omnichannel engagement solutions, digital marketing, web strategy, AI/automation solutions and platforms
Strong understanding of governance, compliance, and regulatory principles within global scientific or medical communications
Experience in managing agencies, vendors, or external solution providers
Strong project management skills with proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and projects in matrixed, global organizations
Excellent communication, organizational, and training skills, with a commitment to upskilling and continuous improvement
Strategic thinker with an agile, growth mindset and resilience in complex, ambiguous environments
Desirable Qualifications
In-depth knowledge of Medical Affairs with experience of working across global, regional, and local networks
Familiarity of the pharmaceutical industry engagement platforms, content management systems, CRM tools, and multi-format delivery channels
Record of building digital culture and leading change in multidisciplinary, multicultural teams
