Job Description:

Position Summary

Provide a comprehensive and diverse range of capital risk management activities, acting as a subject matter expert while offering guidance and support to business partners within your area of specialization. Lead in the accurate and objective assessment of key capital risks through identification, control, and ongoing review. Oversee, provide commentary, and make recommendations aligned with overall strategy and industry best practices. Ensure that capital programs and policies are well managed, comply with internal/external requirements, and align with business priorities.

  • Takes a leadership role in the accurate, complete, and objective assessment Capital Risks through the identification, understanding, control and ongoing review of risks.
  • Works autonomously as the lead and guides others within area of expertise.
  • Ensure respective programs/policies/practices are well managed, meets business needs, complies with internal and external requirements, and aligns with business priorities.
  • Responsible for the measurement, analysis, monitoring and reporting of Capital Risks.

Customer

  • Provide oversight of the Capital Risk management, including independent reviews of key assumptions model usage, reporting and data, calculation methodologies, and capital framework and policy.
  • Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with the established risk appetite for Capital Risk.
  • Monitor and escalate the firm's capital positions, including design and implementation of firm’s risk appetite.
  • Document policies to capture risks that we can measure and understand, aligned to TD's risk appetite.
  • Analyze key risk factors / relationships / patterns and trends and provides recommendations on mitigating potential risks and/or escalates key issues accordingly.

Shareholder

  • Ensure the compliance of the Capital Risk processes with both US and OSFI regulations.
  • Participate in cross-functional / enterprise / initiatives as a subject matter expert helping to identify risk / provide guidance for complex situations.
  • Lead, facilitate, and/or implement actions and remediation plans to address performance / risk /governance issues.
  • Actively manage relationships within and across various business lines, corporate and/or control functions and ensure alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements.
  • Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts.
  • Communicate difficult concepts; converts information to compelling business context and advice; influences and gains alignment across increasingly senior stakeholders.

  • Support a positive work environment that promotes service to the business, quality, innovation, and teamwork and ensure timely communication of issues/ points of interest.
  • Participate in personal performance management and development activities, including cross training within own team.
  • Keep others informed and up to date about the status / progress of projects and / or all relevant or useful information related to day-to-day activities.
  • Act as a technical expert / lead integrating cross-function understanding within their own field of specialty; may manage team(s) of related specialists.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process efficiencies where opportunities exist.
  • Keep current on emerging trends/ developments and grow knowledge of the business, related tools, and techniques.

Job Requirements:

  • 4 year degree required
  • 5+ years of relevant industry, capital risk management experience and/or accreditation
  • Demonstrated strong conceptual and analytical abilities
  • Strong internal control orientation
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, communication skills (both written and verbal), and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Must be able to effectively communicate complex issues and regulatory 
    requirements to senior management stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of and experience in implementing large scale and
    complex programs/projects
