Job Description Summary:
The Streamlined Business Loan Underwriter is responsible for the underwriting of new and renewing Streamlined Business Banking loans and lines of credit, including ACH facilities in accordance with company and department policies and procedures in a timely manner. Line and loan requests may include real estate facilities as well. Incumbent is responsible for ongoing monitoring of the portfolio. Evaluates current market conditions and portfolio traits recommending changes as necessary in credit underwriting standards. Maintains customer confidentiality by keeping customer documents secure at all times.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains thorough knowledge of small business banking lending with regard to product types, pricing and underwriting criteria.
- Analyzes and recommends credit decisions on small business loans and lines of credit within established policies, procedures and established lending authority, utilizing credit scoring models along with identifying the strengths, weaknesses, and cash flow of the borrower.
- Presents and recommends loan decisions to the appropriate approver for requests over lending authority. Clearly and concisely communicates underwriting decisions applications in a timely manner to bank officers, preparing approval documentation or declinations as appropriate.
- Works closely with bank officers through discussions about loan requests and mentors officers as needed.
- Monitors portfolio performance including any required follow up or restructure needed.
- Works with commercial loan operations to obtain required documentation and for servicing of small business loans.
- Interfaces with vendors as it relates to credit scoring and other related software.
- Produce and maintain various management reports on small business portfolio underwriting and performance as needed.
- Track all approved and declined loans or lines of credit as well as loans approved with exceptions to guidelines.
- Travel may be required.
- Completes other duties/projects as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or related field, or equivalent experience desired.
- Must have thorough knowledge of business entities, their financial statements, and tax returns.
- Has accounting and financial statement analysis skills to determine business cash flows and financial ratios necessary to make a sound loan decision.
- Has general knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing small business loan credit administration functions and developing credit policies and procedures for same.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in commercial credit underwriting or related experience.
- Ability to analyze, sort, and summarize data using spreadsheets and databases in preparation of presentations.
- A high degree of comfort with quantitative data.
- Skill in composing and producing professional correspondence.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to make decisions, work independently, and handle multiple priorities; including timeliness of problem resolution.
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated professional business communication (phone, written and in person).
- Comfortable giving guidance to bank officers and making decisions.
- Ability to work successfully with all layers of an organization.
- Proficiency with Microsoft office products (Excel, Word, Outlook); Credit Quest experience is desirable.
- Must possess a positive attitude, good judgment, and the ability to accept responsibility and handle confidential information.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Willingness to assume additional responsibilities/duties/projects as they arise.

- Able to operate a Personal Computer and view information on a monitor.
