Job Purpose

The Manager, Financial Planning and Analysis supports and contributes to the development of the annual financial plan, quarterly forecasts, and other interim forecast processes throughout the year. This role is responsible for the monthly/quarterly financial analysis (including analysis/reporting of actual and forecast/plan results), strategic planning support, ad-hoc requests, and continuous improvement of analysis/management reporting capabilities.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Manages and contributes to the development of forecasts of capital, earnings, and other metrics on multiple accounting bases.
  • Coordinates efforts across all departments necessary to support overall analysis requirements (e.g. Actuarial, ALM, Finance, and Tax).
  • Prepares summary analysis and overall narratives supporting reporting results to senior management and the Board.
  • Provides direct oversight and ensures reasonableness of financial plan and forecast.
  • Establishes project plans essential to the management of plan and forecast analytics.
  • Researches available financial data and processes suited to forecasting and analysis efforts.
  • Analyzes financial and plan/forecast data to ensure consistency with accounting principles and expectations.
  • Initiates continuous improvement of plan/forecast development and overall analytical capabilities.

Other Duties

  • Provides ad-hoc financial analysis.
  • Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and Statutory accounting principles and procedures.
  • Prior experience in financial planning and analysis and/or management reporting a plus.
  • Strong project management and project life cycle process and methodology skills, with demonstrated success in this area.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial modeling.
  • Experience with Anaplan, Oracle, and Power BI a plus.
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks and projects to meet deadlines.
  • Superior analytical, quantitative, and problem solving skills, along with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to influence and communicate effectively across all areas of the organization.
  • Strong collaboration/relationship management skills as well as an ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage and motivate staff to accomplish departmental objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field required.

  • Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in an accounting, finance, or actuarial capacity required.

  • 3+ years of experience in the life/annuity insurance industry preferred.

  • 1+ years of management experience preferred.
