The Lead Operator supports the manufacturing lines to setup, operate and control a variety of processing and auxiliary equipment related to the manufacture of ceramic fiber and its products, as well as assist in testing basic quality, maintain productivity standards and maintain safe operation. This position also provides leadership to Line Operators.

This position reports directly to the Shift Advisor, but also takes instruction and direction from the Process Engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for meeting of various operating equipment to meet daily key performance indicators (KPI’s) for Safety, Quality and Production Rate.
  • Responsible for following written work instructions to set-up, operate and control process related equipment to safely manufacture ceramic fibers and products.
  • Complete hourly and daily process checks along with completing records of in process parameters.
  • Monitor various product specifications to ensure desired results in product quality.
  • Prepare paperwork including production reports and quality reports.
  • Perform quality checks per QA work instruction as desired for operations.
  • Perform material handling tasks as needed including finished goods packaging, shipping/receiving, raw material storage and maintain orderly racking of materials.
  • Complete minor adjustments on process equipment  to meet desired product quality.
  • Troubleshoots equipment, process and quality issues to assist maintenance and engineering staff in resolving issues.
  • Conduct minor equipment repairs as required.
  • Complete minor mechanical adjustments to support manufacturing.
  • Works well indivisibly and in group settings with all levels of plant staff.
  • Changing, disassembling, assembling and cleaning equipment as required.
  • Assists Advisors with leading and directing Line operators for their assigned manufacturing line.
  • Maintains clean, safe, orderly workplace (5S and Six Sigma knowledge desired).
  • Responsible for training operators per work instruction in accordance with Alkegen policies.
  • Provide relief for other areas of production.
  • Must comply with all Federal, State, Local and Company rules and regulations on Health, Safety and Environmental issues.
  • Responsible for maintaining Alkegen's highest level of safety standards on site including identifying and correcting unsafe conditions and unsafe acts.
  • Will embody Alkegen's core safety principles including but not limited to The Seven Safety Absolutes, use of PPE, and Safe Standards of Work at all times.
  • Will champion safety in the workplace each day.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent required, Associate degree or other post high school training preferred (Prior chemical operator experience desirable)
  • The Lead Operator must have a working knowledge of Microsoft office, along with basic computer skills are required
  • Be able to learn and access information through computer databases
  • Be able to read and interpret simple gauges
  • Follow work instructions and provide feedback for improvements
  • The individual must also be able to work a 12-hour, continuous shift schedule (4 days on, 4 days off from 7-7 rotating days/nights)
  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Be able to bend, stoop, lift, squat, walk, and stand for up to 12 hours at a time. 
  • Tools and equipment used: Fork truck, computer, wet scrubber, furnaces, small hand tools, tape gun, stretch wrapper, power washer, etc.

Compensation:

  • $28.95/hr
