Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal Parts Engineer / Sr. Principal Parts Engineer. This position is located in either Roy, UT or Huntsville, AL and supports the Sentinel program.
This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
Candidate will be responsible to perform full spectrum of corrosion management tasks on assigned system and sub-systems to ensure streamlined risk identification, risk mitigation, and tracking of corrosion issues during the design of weapon systems and equipment under an overarching Systems Engineering framework.
Candidate will demonstrate ability to develop/maintain/review Corrosion Mitigation methods, Corrosion Evaluation/verification methods, Corrosion Prevention and Control Plans (CPCPs), PPSLs, PAMPLs of all design teams and their major sub suppliers and perform issue tracking and risk mitigation for all corrosion issues.
Candidate will demonstrate a complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts relative to service life estimation and corrosion. Candidate will demonstrate general knowledge of Systems Engineering, multi-generational program system and/or multi-generational program subsystem development, and familiarity with supplier management.
Candidate will create, analyze, and produce roadmaps, impact, and issue reports and present data to stakeholders, customers, and upper management. Research specifications and standards to support metals and corrosion engineering processes. Research technical, corrosion data sources using Government and commercial sources. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic material and processing specifications, fabrication, and assembly processes. Review and evaluate engineering solutions, design, and technical data for corrosion impacts. Follow Systems Engineering disciplines and processes. Assist in the Hexavalent Chromium prevention process. Applicant will be expected to maintain close coordination with several integrated product teams, provide detailed status to program leadership, participate in Corrosion Prevention and Advisory Board meetings, as required.
Candidate will be self-motivated, work under general direction, and work well in teams. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools is essential.

Responsibilities may include:
Draft and review design documents, drawings, specification and test plans.
Recommend materials selections, and process selections for welding, metallurgy, and corrosion.
Work closely with multiple functional organizations (Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Field Operations, etc.).
Develops novel approaches for assessing hardware performance risks, corrosion prevention, service life prediction, or testing
Provide mentorship and training to junior engineers on corrosion and service life prediction
Uses software modeling and simulations tools for corrosion assessments and evaluation to predict service life, and identify corrosion issues in 3D and 2D assemblies.
Uses a data driven decision making approach for technical problem solving
Document and tracking corrosion risks and issues with design drawings, 3D models, and material selections.
Collaborates with systems engineers, design engineers, project managers, reliability engineers, and external customers for establishing corrosion best practices for galvanic assessments, service life predictions, failure analysis, 3D modeling and simulation, specifications, and processes.
Present/communicate with senior leadership on cost/time savings opportunities related to corrosion and service life of hardware designs.

This position’s standard work schedule is 9/80, which allows employees to work nine-hour days Monday through Thursday and take every other Friday off.
This position may be filled as a Principal Engineer (Level 3) or a Senior Principal Engineer (Level 4).
Required for Principal Parts Engineer:
Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, 3 years of experience with a Master's degree, or 0 years of experience with a PhD
Required for Sr. Principal Parts Engineer:
Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 9 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, 7 years of experience with a Master's degree, or 4 years with a PhD
Required for Both Levels:
Active, in scope DOD Secret security clearance or higher granted or approved within the last 6 years
Must be eligible to obtain Enhanced Security Clearances within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs
Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering discipline from an accredited university
Current Special Program Access
Experience with Air Force, Navy, or Army Programs
Experience with Development Programs
Experience with Coordinating and Performing Failure Analysis for mechanical and electrical assemblies and materials (corrosion, fracture, deformation, GD&T, etc)
Experience performing inspections of welds
Understanding of process/procedure development, control and improvement
Experience within Developing Strength and Fracture Allowables
Experience managing Program Parts Selection List (PPSL), Program Approved Parts List (PAPL), Program Approved Material and Process List (PAMPL)
Familiar with Systems Engineering framework and concepts
Experience with Siemens Teamcenter, NX solid modeling
Excellent 2-way communication skills (upward and downward)
