Job Description Summary:

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center is part of a highly ranked academic medical center that has developed a national and international reputation. This is a vibrant growing medical campus with recent and ongoing expansion of programs, facilities, and faculty. The department is experiencing rapid growth and has established a sub specialization practice model. The University of Kansas Health System is an NCI-designated Cancer Center, which provides rich opportunities for clinical and translational research.

Tenure track appointments are full-time with an initial probationary period of seven years. Criteria for promotion includes significant achievements in teaching, research/scholarship, and service. The award of tenure is based on potential for sustained contributions, performing beyond expected duties, and demonstrating leadership and innovation in activities that enhance the reputation of the University.

The Clinical Scholar Track is for full-time faculty members who are heavily involved in clinical service, education, and related scholarship. This track has two career paths: Clinician-Educator concentrating on teaching and Clinician-Investigator for concentrating on research/scholarship. Significant contributions in professional and academic service are required for both paths.

Job Description:

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • The ideal candidate will be responsible for the clinical and operational performance of Point of Care Testing.

  • Assist with the operational performance of the Core Lab

  • Teach Medical Students with didactic lectures as well as small group labs in addition to resident and fellow teaching. 

Required Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Doctor of Clinical Laboratory Science (DCLS)

  • Medical Laboratory Scientist Certificate (MLS)

  • Clinical Chemist Certification (CC)

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Experience with Laboratory Leadership and Academic Productivity

  • Experience in the Field of Clinical Laboratory Science and Management

  • Quality Control and Informatics Experience
