Join the Government & Regulatory Affairs team in Power Marketing to work together in the challenge of identifying items in governmental agencies and organizations that may affect the value of the renewable energy portfolio. This position is in our North America headquarters in downtown Chicago.
- Supports the Power Marketing Department by assisting the Government & Regulatory Affairs manager in monitoring and reporting on RTO/ISO market regulations and rule changes in active Acciona power markets.
- Attends RTO/ISO stakeholder committee and task force meetings and other stakeholder and industry events to identify market rule proposals, Tariff changes, and emerging issues affecting Acciona’s portfolio value.
- Tracks and analyzes RTO/ISO Tariff, market rule, and business manual proposals and related issues that affect the day ahead and real time energy markets, ancillary services, capacity markets, asset operations, and other related issues.
- Assists in building and maintaining strong relationships with RTO/ISO staff, trade associations, and stakeholder groups.
- Under direction of manager, assists with advocating Acciona’s positions on RTO/ISO rule proposals by gathering information internally on issues, coordinating with other stakeholders, and communicating with RTO/ISO staff.
- Maintains, organizes, and summarizes information from RTO/ISO Tariff and market rule proposals and changes, and reviews industry publications and reports.
- Contributes to internal discussions and debriefs on RTO/ISO activities as well as internal written updates and presentations as needed.
- Provides regulatory business analysis support to Power Marketing Team and other departments as needed by summarizing, discussing, and clarifying RTO/ISO regulatory and market rule issues.
- Executes responsibilities by coordinating closely with manager and other Power Marketing team members.
- Reviews and synthesizes information provided by third-party consultants and communicates the relevant detail to manager and team.
- Follows and reports on FERC cases related to regulatory filings made by FERC-jurisdictional RTOs.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or Economics or related field or equivalent work experience required.
- Working knowledge of competitive wholesale power markets required.
- A minimum of three (3) years working in the utility industry in a deregulated energy market or for an RTO/ISO preferred, particularly in PJM, MISO, SPP, or ERCOT. Experience working in a renewable energy company a plus.
- Ability to understand and interpret the effects of changes to RTO/ISO Tariffs, market rules, business practice manuals, and related policies on Acciona assets.
- Diplomacy and related people skills necessary to successfully navigate complex RTO/ISO stakeholder committee and task force processes and elicit support for company positions.
- Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to synthesize and convey complex or technical information clearly and concisely.
- Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills.
- Flexibility and willingness to collaborate internally and externally and build coalitions at the stakeholder level.
- Ability and willingness to travel to RTO/ISO and other industry meetings.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
