Job Description:

The CNC Programmer I provides CNC programming and technical support to the machine shop manufacturing operation. This role develops and optimizes CNC programs, tooling, and work holding solutions to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets while partnering closely with operators, engineering, and leaders to solve machining and process issues.

                       

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Create CNC programs for manufacturing component parts; optimize programs, methods, and setups to meet cost, quality, and standard work requirements.
  • Recommend, specify, design, and detail work holding requirements (fixtures, clamps, locating, etc.) to ensure repeatable, safe, and efficient machining.
  • Specify, justify, and requisition durable and perishable tooling to support production needs.
  • Coordinate with machine operators, CNC programmers, and leaders to identify issues, evaluate options, and problem-solve machining and process challenges.
  • Investigate new programming methods or concepts and determine how they can be implemented within the programming system.
  • Assist in developing, evaluating, and improving manufacturing methods to achieve the lowest total cost and best overall performance.
  • Estimate production time and related costs to support costing for new products, engineering changes, and special projects.
  • Identify opportunities to improve quality, reduce scrap, and error-proof machining methods.
  • Support process improvement initiatives by implementing policies, procedures, and process documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree in Machining or a related field; OR 5 years of machining experience, including shop-floor programming experience.
  • Experience using CAM software (e.g., ESPRIT, Mastercam, etc.) or equivalent systems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Ability to use CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with operators, engineering, and leadership.
  • Effective troubleshooting skills and a continuous improvement mindset.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:

This position does not directly supervise others.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for frequent operation of a computer
  • Stand, walk, bend, reach or otherwise move about occasionally
  • Lift, move or otherwise transfer items up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards which may require respiratory protection
