Job Description:
Scope: This Fellowship is a 12-month opportunity for PAs or NPs to obtain invaluable education and clinical experience in a medical specialty.This Fellowship is a 12-month opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to obtain invaluable education and clinical experience in trauma and acute surgical care at Primary Children’s Hospital, a level I trauma center located in Salt Lake City, Utah. One Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellows will spend the majority of the year with the Trauma/General Surgery Service, a well-established team comprised of general surgeons surgeons and APPs who have been working collaboratively for over 20 years. Responsibilities include managing trauma/general surgery patients on the floor and in the PICU, leading trauma resuscitations and massive transfusion in the trauma bay/OR/PICU/floor, completing Emergency Department consultations, and on occasion assisting in the operating room. Additional rotations include Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, Radiology, Pharmacy, and outpatient subspecialty clinics. The Fellowship also includes didactic and clinical competencies, and a clinical research project culminating in a presentation and abstract for publication.
The Fellow will function under the medical supervision of advanced practice providers and physicians on their respective rotations, gaining independence as the year progresses. Overnight call shifts will constitute a part of the weekly schedule, to offer ample opportunity for clinical experience and high acuity patients. The Fellows will undergo quarterly evaluations with the Program and Medical Directors.
The ideal candidates for this position will demonstrate a unique passion for pediatric trauma and general surgery, will possess a strong work ethic and self-driven approach to learning, and will be capable of becoming a leader who advances the role of APPs in this field.
Posting Specifics
· Base Annual Salary: $79,851.20

· Schedule: The schedule will be rotating depending on which service you are following. There will be a combination of days, nights, weekends, and holidays. There may be 12 hour shifts or 24 hour shifts. On average the Fellow can anticipate working 48-60+ hours per week depending on which service they are with.

Minimum Requirements
The following must be met prior to beginning employment:
· Current state license as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (APRN) at time of program start.
· Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
· Eligible for state Controlled Substance License II through V.
· Eligible for Federal DEA Certificate II through V.
· Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for healthcare providers.
· Current ACLS Certification
· Other certification as required (e.g. TNCC, NRP).
