SUMMARY

The Content & Communications Manager works with the Director of Marketing & Communications and Marketing team to implement media and content strategies to increase visibility, positive sentiment, and communications efforts. They manage the internal and external messaging for Destination El Paso (El Paso Live, Visit El Paso, El Paso Water Parks) and direct the content creation for advertising & promotional materials. The role also involves developing and implementing AI strategies for content development, especially with regards to company websites and email marketing campaigns, to enhance user experience and content generation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES­­

Project Management

  • Oversee project workflows in Wrike, ensuring submissions adhere to timelines and deliverable requirements.
  • Work with coordinators to assign roles and tasks effectively based on project needs and team member strengths.
  • Collaborate closely with the marketing team to manage design timelines and expectations, ensuring seamless project execution.

Content Development

  • Manage a team of content professionals (social media, website, and email marketing) to execute an omnipresent marketing strategy across all three DEP units.
  • Implement & oversee complex communications programs, be they internal or external, that effectively promote the organization and its services.
  • Supervise projects to guarantee all content is publication ready.
  • Produce high-quality, well-researched content for online and print publications, including website articles, blog posts, brochures, and marketing collateral.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent brand voice and messaging across all content, ensuring alignment with DEP's tourism and event marketing goals.
  • Create compelling narratives that showcase El Paso's unique attractions, cultural experiences, and events, inspiring visitors to explore our city.
  • Optimize content for traditional search engines (SEO) and generative search engines (GEO) to maximize online visibility and drive traffic to Destination El Paso websites.
  • Oversee the social media strategy for Visit El Paso, El Paso Live, and El Paso Water Parks, in collaboration with the Social Media Coordinator, ensuring alignment with the overall content strategy.
  • Develop and manage content calendars, ensuring timely publication and consistent output across
    various platforms.
  • Create communications for events, launches, and new products.
  • Explore and integrate AI tools for content optimization, personalization, and efficiency in content
    creation workflows.

Communications & Media Relations

  • Work directly with local and national media professionals to extend the reach of Destination El Paso communications.
  • Along with the President & CEO and Director of Marketing & Communications, serve as the spokesperson for Destination El Paso.
  • Create informative and interesting press releases, press kits, newsletters, and related marketing materials.
  • Work with marketing team to execute press conferences.
  • Prepare detailed media reports & year-end summaries.
  • Respond to communication-related issues in a timely manner.
  • Manage Visit El Paso, El Paso Live, and Water Parks newsletters, including writing engaging content, maintaining audience lists, and generating performance reports.
  • Utilize email marketing platforms (e.g., Hive) to create templates, manage audiences, and track
    campaign effectiveness.
  • Oversee media relations activities, including:
    • Updating media lists and contact information in MuckRack.
    • Creating and distributing press releases to secure media coverage for events and initiatives.
    • Managing photo and video assets, scheduling freelance photographers and videographers as needed.
    • Handling media requests, coordinating interviews, and managing press conferences.
    • Overseeing on-site media management during events, including press check-ins and facilitating
      media access.

Website Management

  • Improve the usability, content, and conversion of company websites.
  • Review innovative technologies and keep the company sites at the forefront of developments in digital marketing.
  • Evaluate end-to-end customer experience across multiple channels and customer touch points.
  • Manage updates to Destination El Paso websites, ensuring content is current, accurate, and engaging.
  • Collaborate with Director of Marketing & Communications and Marketing Specialist to implement website improvements and new features that enhance user experience.
  • Develop and implement AI strategies specifically for company websites to enhance user experience and
    content generation.
  • Stay informed on emerging AI trends and technologies relevant to digital marketing and communications, advising on their potential application for Destination El Paso.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two or four-year degree from an academic institution in marketing and/or two years related experience.
  • 3 years’ experience in Marketing, Advertising, or Public Relations positions.
  • Creative and detail-oriented
  • Able and willing to travel frequently.
  • Good organizational, oral, and written communication skills
  • Able to manage time & project expectations.
  • Experience using graphics and video-editing software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro)

           

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, abilities and skills would be qualifying. Prior public contact experience necessary. High school diploma or GED required.  One to two years’ experience required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Position requires sitting and standing for long periods of time.
  • Daily sitting, focusing on and operating a personal computer or terminal keyboard to enter data for aver 60 minutes at a time.
  • Ability to read printed words and numbers in printed form and on computer/terminal monitor.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS

This position is within an office environment, however, requires in and out of doors several times a day

HOURS OF WORK AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Monday – Friday, 8AM – 5PM
  • Frequent additional hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays, flexible schedule required.
