OUR COMPANY
Quell was founded in March 2019 in partnership with six prominent immunological experts from King’s College London, University College London, and Hannover Medical School, and is led by Iain McGill, a leading pharmaceutical executive with extensive relevant experience, having spent most of his 25 years in the industry in immunology, including the areas of solid organ and cell transplantation. The Company was founded with initial series A financing, led by Syncona Ltd who committed £34M with a further £1M contributed by UCL Technology Fund.
THE ROLE
The Associate Director of FP&A will be responsible for managing the financial planning, forecasting, and analytical initiatives of the organisation. This role requires a self-starter with an analytical and detail-oriented mindset alongside strong financial modelling skills.
The ideal candidate will be proactive and capable of working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee all aspects of financial planning and analysis, not limited the following:
Financial Planning and Forecasting
- Lead the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes, working closely with business units to set achievable and strategic financial goals.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive financial models to support strategic planning, including multi-year forecasting.
- Conduct variance analysis to compare actual results against budgets and forecasts, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Assist in management of cash flow forecast for treasury management role carried out in Accounting
Management Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to executive management, summarizing key insights and recommendations.
- Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to track business performance and provide actionable insights.
- Produce ad hoc reports and financial analysis to support strategic initiatives and operational decisions as required.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with departments such as Research, Manufacturing, Clinical operations, and across G&A to gather inputs and assumptions for financial planning and forecasting.
- Collaborate with department heads to optimise budgeting and forecasting processes, enhancing financial visibility and accountability.
- Serve as a finance liaison to ensure alignment between financial planning and operational execution.
Process Improvement & Systems Optimization
- Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes, improve data accuracy, and enhance reporting capabilities.
- Implement or improve FP&A tools and systems to increase efficiency in budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes.
- Develop and implement best practices in financial planning, modelling, and analysis.
Other
- Support strategic decision-making by providing financial analysis and modelling for various projects and initiatives.
- Oversee FP&A function and team.
- Manage and mentor the FP&A team (1 FP&A Manager), fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development

EXPERIENCE WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Qualified Accountant from a recognised body with at least 7 years PQE.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear insights.
- Life sciences industry experience is an advantage but not essential.
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED
- Strong competency in financial software (NetSuite an advantage) and Microsoft applications including Excel, SharePoint, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong proficiency in financial modelling, forecasting, and budgeting.
