Our Strategy and Business Excellence team develops and deploys the Global Product Development and Supply strategy, driving connectivity between the broader enterprise. Position Summary

Drives the newly created GPS Innovation Council in forwarding the vision to advance cost, reliability and quality through ensuring maturity of our end-to-end development and manufacturing processes utilizing industry intelligence, innovative thinking, and flawless pull-through of improvements into the commercial supply. Develops the implementation strategy, elevates the organization's innovation capabilities, and works across sponsors and functional leaders to deliver the best outcome for the enterprise. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads the Innovation Council including working with GPS senior leadership to ensure ownership and support for the success of new ways of working
  • Establish a standardized approach and capability to unlock and accelerate innovation within GPS
  • Define and implement frameworks, methodologies, mindsets, and a common language of innovation (e.g., design space, design thinking, and embracing intelligent failure)
  • Assess level of innovation maturity across GPS organization
  • Develop innovation maturity action plan, including a change management strategy tailored to different personas within the company
  • Celebrate and scale innovative thinking, projects, and ways of working through hosting innovation tournaments and Shark Tank-style events
  • Design and deploy knowledge management capabilities focused on external touchpoints and insights, enabling us to tap into valuable external resources and stay ahead of the curve
  • Ensures the long-term success of the council through linkages to GPS Strategy and BMS Enterprise Strategy, standardization of workflows, insights / ideation and maturity of decision materials and progress reports
  • Accountable for driving decisions, ensures strategic decisions are made to fulfil the strategic direction
  • Oversee the whole-time plan and roadmap for Innovation Council implementation and continuously tracks status, pace and scheduling, including content for reports for the GPS LT
  • Works closely with the enterprise product teams to understand the company level problem statements and internal innovation teams and business development to gain a deeper of potential solutions
  • Pro-actively surveys the industry through collaboration with business intelligence teams to understand opportunities unrealized at BMS today
  • Leads communication and develops effective strategies & partnership with stakeholders from GPS, the enterprise, and corporate affairs
  • As modality areas recognize “hot spots” or priority areas for innovation, which do not have direct functional ownership, agile teams will be stood up to action solutions against them. Support the Innovation Team members in leading these efforts

Shared Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with product development teams, manufacturing science teams, and Business Development to identify and democratize innovation opportunities
  • Work closely with BMS Enterprise Strategy to align expectations and requirements for candidate advancement to a mature and reliable commercial product

Qualifications & Experience

Candidates for this position should have significant experience and a demonstrated track record of success leading strategy, operations, and technical efforts.  Candidates must have the proven ability to develop and lead a team of professionals who can interact across all levels and functions of the organization effectively.  Candidates must also bring to this position a proven ability to lead during a time of significant change, and an ability to establish credibility and influence other executives through both formal and informal leadership. 

  • ·B.S. / B.A. in science or engineering. Master or advanced degree preferred
  • ·Prior knowledge of different manufacturing platforms & facilities for different modalities
  • ·15 yrs+ exp pharma/ biotech operations, supply chain, regulatory, new product launch, Lifecyle management, network management, and transformations

Additional professional and personal requirements include:

  • Demonstrated managerial and leadership skills in leading within a matrix environment, and the ability to work across various functional organizational interfaces
  • Demonstrated ability to build a team and develop a high-performance organization in a matrix management environment
  • Strategic agility - Strong and demonstrated strategic thinking capability with proven success & discipline to focus on execution of strategic decisions while balance conflicting priorities
  • Process Effectiveness & Drive for Results --Ability to provide innovative ideas to optimize supply chain and generate new ideas or alternatives that create value including seeking new information and external insights
  • Exceptional executive written & oral communications critical with proven savvy in executive escalation of critical issues
  • Exceptional capability to build alignment with senior level business partners in areas including research & development, commercial operations, manufacturing site leaders/GMs, Global Supply Chain 
  • Demonstrated strong ability to influence areas not under direct control to achieve objectives and effectively communicate challenging goals & objectives
  • Demonstrated strong leadership capability with ability to make and act on decisions while balancing speed, quality and risk
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment and build strong relationships by being transparent, reliable and delivering on commitments
  • Successful track record of building, leading and maintaining high-performing and highly motivated teams; regarded and well respected as a strong leader
  • Competency in developing strategic plans, as well as directing tactical execution; strong project management skills

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $189,000 - $236,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the geographic location where work is performed.
