The mandate of the North America Segment Management team within Global Asset Liability Management (ALM) is to support ALM risk management, implement both long term and tactical ALM strategies, and support balance sheet optimization within the constraints of tax, capital, liquidity, accounting and reserving, for the Canadian and US Segments.

Reporting to the VP, Head of North America Asset Liability Management, this incumbent’s primary responsibility will be to coordinate and lead balance sheet management activities, with a focus on managing non-fixed income asset allocations and surplus segment liquidity in North America. In addition, this incumbent will provide ALM support to cross divisional projects and initiatives to meet our business goals and financial objectives.

The position provides the challenging opportunity for interacting with many business partners in Investments, Group and Risk as well as North America business units of Manulife, and for gaining an understanding of the many types of investments and business activities across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Manage non-fixed income asset allocations to different segments to meet their strategic targets
  • Recommend to senior management non-fixed income asset rebalancing to optimize asset opportunities, and to manage capital, risk and liquidity constraints
  • Coordinate with asset origination teams and investment operations on asset funding
  • Work closely with Group Treasury in projecting cash in different legal entities and devise asset plans to manage the entities’ liquidity
  • Act as ALM main contact in North America for non-fixed income asset and surplus inquiries and problem resolution
  • Manage additional projects and ad-hoc requests as required
  • Develop an understanding of tax, capital, liquidity, accounting and reserving in order to contribute to the balance sheet management solutions
  • Key contacts: North American Portfolio Management, Private Market Front Office Investment teams, Investment Operations, Group and Divisional Risk and Actuarial, Business Unit Inforce Management, Capital Management, Reinsurance, Finance/Accounting

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree or certification required, with a background in Investments, Risk Management or Actuarial
  • FSA or CFA is an advantage
  • Working knowledge of interest rate and FX derivatives is an advantage
  • 5+ years of experience in the financial services or investment risk management environment
  • Strong leadership capabilities applied within team settings and with individual contributors
  • Ability to respond to changing demands from multiple stakeholders and prioritize needs while working under tight deadlines
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively across various disciplines (Investment, Actuarial, Capital, Accounting and Risk)

Salary range is expected to be between

$103,050.00 CAD - $185,490.00 CAD
