Smartsheet is seeking an experienced tax professional to join our growing Tax team as an Indirect Tax Accountant based in Costa Rica. The Tax Accountant will manage US and Canadian indirect tax compliance, playing a key ownership role in compliance, account reconciliations, and process improvement. This role can work remotely and will report to the Indirect Tax Manager based in Bellevue, WA.

You Will

• Assist with the preparation of indirect tax returns, including US sales and use tax and Canadian HST and PST
• Maintain the indirect tax calendar to ensure all returns and payments are filed on time
• Prepare account reconciliations and/or journal entries for tax related general ledger accounts
• Support the approval process and organization of multi-state sales tax exemption certificates
• Maintain documentation regarding internal tax processes 
• Identify and implement process improvement initiatives
• Assist with ad hoc tax projects and planning initiatives as required 

You Have

• 3+ years of tax, accounting, or finance experience in a public accounting firm or equivalent experience in a large multinational corporation
• Post-secondary degree (i.e., Bachelor’s degree) in Accounting or Finance is a plus but is not required; relevant practical experience will be prioritized.
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Excel, Word)
• Experience with NetSuite, Salesforce, and Stripe is a plus
• Detail oriented, analytical and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Advanced English proficiency required for daily interaction with US-based team
