Director, Digital Student Experience Operations

Stateside Exempt, Grade 3.3

Location: Remote

This role will establish and lead the Digital Student Experience (DSE) team's effort in operational excellence to ensure successful delivery of our projects. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of the Digital Student Experience team, the Director of DSE Operations will be responsible for developing and implementing a vision for lifecycle management, establishing standards, processes, and best practices, enabling necessary tools and technology. They will also coordinate the efforts within our team and the Student Engagement and Achievement department ensuring alignment with organizational goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management, process optimization, team leadership, and will oversee the DSE Coordinator and external contractors.
 

Primary Duties:

  • Strategic Vision and Framework Development: Develop and implement a strategic vision for lifecycle management that guides projects from inception to delivery. Define and establish a framework that includes standards, processes, and best practices to ensure efficient and effective operations. - 20%
  • Process and Technology Enablement: Determine and enable processes, tools, and technology for the execution of projects. Support the procurement, implementation, and maintenance of technology required for the team. - 20%
  • Project Oversight and Alignment: Ensure projects align with UMGC’s goals and objectives outlined in the university strategy. Develop and monitor KPIs to measure and track operational performance. Organize and manage efforts and external contractors for work on projects supporting DSE efforts. Serve as a key point of contact for the DSE efforts, providing regular updates to senior leadership. - 15%
  • Continuous Improvement and Risk Management: Identify and implement opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project quality. Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies for successful project outcomes. Address and resolve operational issues, challenges, and roadblocks in a timely manner. - 15%
  • Resource Management and Roadmap Development: Ensure optimal allocation of resources. Develop and manage a roadmap, including determining the allocation and planning of projects. Monitor active projects, providing feedback to improve project performance. - 15%
  • Team Leadership and Communication: Develop team members in their project and product management skills, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Oversee the DSE Coordinator and support the management, recruitment, and onboarding of new DSE members. Lead and manage team meetings, ensuring effective communication about the team's work, including internal and external reporting, developing the annual report, and updating the external team SharePoint. Manage team SharePoint and document management. - 15%

Required Education and Experience:

4-year college degree in Business administration, project management, engineering or related field

Experience:

  • 5 to 7 years (3 to 5 years supervisory)
  • Proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams. Strong understanding of project and product lifecycle management, including planning, development, and delivery. Excellent project management skills, with a focus on process improvement and operational efficiency. Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to think strategically and execute tactically. Proficiency in project management tools and software.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Product management principles and project management principles: Deep understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Waterfall) and tools (e.g., MS Project, JIRA, Trello). Knowledge of the entire project lifecycle, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure. Knowledge of risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and contingency planning. Ability to inspire, lead, and develop a high-performing team. Skills in developing and implementing strategic visions and plans. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with senior leadership, team members, and external stakeholders. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines. Ability to mentor and coach team members to enhance their skills and career development.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Masters or other post-graduate education (MBA)
  • 7 to 10 years (5 to 7 years supervisory)
