This is a 12 month internship opportunity. It is ideally designed for those who are currently enrolled in a post-secondary education program, or who have just graduated.

IMCO is seeking a highly motivated intern currently pursuing a degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related discipline for a 12-month internship opportunity. This role is ideal for individuals interested in Investment, Finance, Accounting, and process automation within the investment industry. The successful candidate will gain hands-on exposure to investment operations, financial reporting, fee oversight, data management, and process optimization, while collaborating with multiple teams across the organization.

As a Member of Our Team, You Will be Responsible For:

  • Review and process custody fees, carried interest, and performance and management fees, including fee accruals and invoice preparation.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual client deliverables, including reporting of accruals, AUM, hedging notionals, and commitments.
  • Perform periodic external manager fee reconciliations, variance analysis, and ad-hoc reporting.
  • Ensure accurate recording of cost-related activities through journals and supporting schedules in accordance with corporate procedures and accounting standards.
  • Support compliance monitoring of investment managers against prescribed guidelines and assist with issue investigation and escalation.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing required documentation and support.
  • Support of an AI-driven operational implementations, helping to establish robust standards and workflows for automated processes.
  • Champion innovation and process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Support administrative and documentation activities related to client accounts and pooled fund investments.
  • Participate in team projects and perform other duties as assigned.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Interest in financial services and the investments industry.
  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a university degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Professional designations (CPA, CFA,) currently being pursued are considered an asset.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in investment administration, investment operations, or fund accounting is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, VBA, or other programming languages (experience with automation frameworks is an asset).
  • Proficiency in MS Suite (Excel, Word, Power BI, Power Automate).
  • Basic understanding of accounting standards (IFRS, pension accounting) and general ledger preparation.
  • Experience supporting daily and monthly accounting and reporting activities.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex information.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and continuous improvement mindset.

The base salary range for this position is CAD $45,000 to $65,000. The placement within the range is determined by the role and assessment of the candidate’s year of study and relevant work experience.
