The Radiation Oncology Department at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is one of the premier radiation treatment programs in the world. We service patients from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana-Farber, and Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Hospital.

What You Will Do
Under the direction of the Chief Therapist, the Lead Therapist will share in the management of a specific area. The Lead Radiation Therapist will assume responsibility for specific activities related to maintaining the overall quality control of treatments, and the orientation, education, and supervision of Senior and Staff Radiation Therapists in the Department of Radiation Oncology. Specific responsibilities include development of unit programs and departmental policies. These groups of activities will be delegated by the Chief Radiation Therapist and involve clinical responsibilities, administrative responsibilities, and general responsibilities.
May be required to demonstrate basic knowledge and skills in one or more specialty areas and programs, including but not limited to:
GE & Siemens Simulators
Varian Linacs, including Ethos
Tattoo-less treatments using AlignRT, Brainlab, SBRT, SRS/SRT, HDR, TBI, IMRT, VMAT, and Pediatric Anesthesia cases
Brachytherapy/HDR

Essential Functions
Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Directly responsible for the efficient daily operation of the assigned clinical treatment or simulation area.
Responsible for the direct supervision of Senior and Staff Radiation Therapists, and Therapy Aides, and Radiation Therapy students assigned to area.
As directed by Chief Radiation Therapist, demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with other departmental teams, including, but not limited to: physicians, nurses, physics, administrative assistants to efficiently problem solve and implement solutions around treatment planning/delivery problems.
Collaborates with care team members to resolve clinical problems.
Leads the therapist team in developing new and emerging techniques.
Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed.
Demonstrates professional behavior/conduct in all interactions; fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes.
Operates treatment and treatment planning equipment to include simulation in accordance with departmental policy. Prepares treatments and administers prescribed doses in accordance with established policies. Prepares and maintains accurate documentation.
Possesses an advanced knowledge base and ability to accurately perform and teach all policy, procedures, QA measures including New Start and Cone Down chart checks, weekly chart checks, scheduling, treatment procedures, image review guidelines, and billing procedures.
Positions and immobilizes patients according to the treatment plan and effectively evaluates images according to standard guidelines and assists in solving set-up issues.
Coordinates with the Clinical Radiation Therapy Program Director, the clinical assignment, instruction, and evaluation of Radiation Therapy students.
Manages the triage & scheduling of emergent cases, coordinates all on-call activities with the on-call therapist and other care team members.
Understands the function of all equipment, accessories, treatment policies, procedures, and protocols and applies knowledge appropriately.
Performs daily QA measures to ensure proficient operation of all imaging and treatment equipment.
Attentive to patient needs and concerns by continuous monitoring of the patient’s physical and physiological response and reactions to treatment and refer patient for appropriate management as needed.
Demonstrate strong customer service skills, including the ability to use appropriate judgment, independent thinking and creativity when resolving issues and conflict.
Attends various departmental meetings, when requested.

What You Will Bring
Associate's Degree Radiation Therapy required or Bachelor's Degree Radiation Therapy preferred
Valid Massachusetts State License in Radiation Therapy
ARRT certification required
Valid BLS certification
Clinical Experience 3-5 years required
