The role 

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Control Tower Officer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all Sandvik consignments are shipped in the most cost-effective way, validating invoices against expected costs using Freight Management systems such as BY TMS. You will also manage international inbound and outbound freight, ensuring timely clearance and accurate documentation. Additionally, you will provide internal customers with the most cost-effective freight quotes, ensuring efficient service based on demand. 

While this is a full-time role, Sandvik recognises the need for flexibility and offers a range of flexible working options, including condensed workweeks, remote working, and flexible start/finish times. 

 

Areas of responsibility 

  • Complete day-to-day administrative tasks including freight invoice validation, claims processing, and preparation of export documentation. 

  • Maintain the data integrity of freight management systems. 

  • Assist Sandvik shipping staff with processing issues through and provide training where necessary. 

  • Manage exceptions and deviations related to shipping charges, failed deliveries, and lost shipments. 

  • Obtain quotes for ad-hoc freight movements and validate invoices for Accounts Payable. 

  • Prepare end-of-month reports for freight operations. 
     

 Your profile 

We are looking for an independent, efficient, adaptable, proactive, and astute individual, with 1-3 years in a logistics Role minimum. Experience within the mining and/or Transport Management System desirable. 

You will have a keen eye for detail and knowledge of International Trade and Freight Insurance processes and Knowledge of Operational Freight processes (Booking, Invoice Validation). 

You will be Competent Interpersonal relationship skills, Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner. 

 

Areas of responsibility 

  • Complete Day to Day administrative tasks; including freight invoice validation & matching, claims processing, export documentation preparation, to support transport logistics processes and activities within Distribution Services. 

  • Maintain data integrity of freight management systems used by Distribution Services such as BY TMS and Factor Freight. 

  • Assist Sandvik shipping staff with any processing issues, assist with Carrier booking software issues and where necessary provide training. 

  • Exception and deviation management of shipping charges, failed deliveries and missing or lost shipments. 

  • Obtain quotes for ad-hoc freight movements as requested, while providing Accounts Payable with validated and approved invoices. 

  • End of month report preparation. 

 

 

Your profile 

We are looking for an independent, efficient, adaptable, and proactive individual with at least 1-3 years of experience in a logistics role. Experience in the mining sector and/or with Transport Management Systems is desirable. You should have a strong eye for detail, knowledge of international and domestic operational freight procedures, including booking and invoice validation. 

In addition to the above, we are looking for someone with: 

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills. 

  • Ability to work constructively and collaboratively with various teams. 

  • Knowledge of logistics, freight management systems. 

  • Ability to manage complex freight and shipping operations independently.
