WHO WE ARE

Amae Health is a Series B, venture-backed Public Benefit Corporation that delivers specialty outpatient care for people with severe mental illness. We build and operate high-acuity, in-person clinics nationally.

Our model integrates psychiatry, therapy, primary care, dietitians, and community support under one roof. It has proven itself as the most effective in the country, which is why we collaborate with leading health systems including NewYork-Presbyterian, Cedars-Sinai, Mass General Brigham, Novant Health, and CommonSpirit to extend our care to where it’s needed most.

But what makes us fundamentally different is that we are also building the science and technology layer that this field has never had. We are developing proprietary clinical protocols, designing novel measurement science, and engineering an AI data science platform purpose-built for the complexity of severe mental illness. Every patient interaction generates data that feeds back into our protocols, our technology, and our understanding of what actually works.

We reduce hospitalizations. We improve stability. We keep people alive and in their communities. We help our members gain purpose and meaning.

The Role

Amae Health is seeking a strategic and execution-oriented Director of Growth & Operations to lead market expansion and operational performance across our care delivery ecosystem.

This leader will sit at the intersection of market growth, community partnerships, and operational excellence, working closely with executive leadership, clinical directors, and regional leaders to scale Amae’s innovative care model for individuals with severe mental illness.

Unlike a traditional operations role, the Director will own market-level growth outcomes, build scalable systems for referral generation and partnership development, and ensure operational readiness as we launch and expand clinics nationally.

What You'll Work On

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives that improve day-to-day care delivery — new market launches, care model design, referral conversion and operational scalability
  • Build and implement market playbooks, workflows, and performance frameworks that enable consistent execution across locations.
  • Use data and frontline feedback to identify bottlenecks, then build and drive improvement initiatives with clear owners and measurable outcomes
  • Lead cross-functional workstreams across clinical, ops, and product — managing alignment, communication, and rollout
  • Build the systems and SOPs that turn one-off solutions into scalable standards

What You'll Bring

  • 7+ years of experience in strategy, operations, or growth roles at a venture-backed startup, consulting firm, or healthcare company
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence clinical and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience in or strong appetite for commercially-oriented work: market expansion, partnership operations, or growth initiatives
  • Strong analytical and operational mindset with ability to translate strategy into execution.
  • Startup experience strongly preferred — you've navigated ambiguity, worn multiple hats, and figured things out without a playbook
  • Collaborative and high-EQ; you know how to move cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • Interest in healthcare or behavioral health; you don't need to be a clinical expert, but you care about the mission
  • Based in SF Bay Area; able to work in-person 5 days/week in Cow Hollow

What We’re Building

Most healthcare companies ask you to optimize an existing system. We’re building one that has never existed.

  • A national care model designed for the highest-acuity patients in behavioral health.
  • Precision medicine for severe mental illness, using multimodal clinical, behavioral, and social data to personalize treatment.
  • A clinical operating system that integrates longitudinal data, real-time patient signals, and purpose-built tools into a single decision layer.
  • New science and measurement frameworks to define what real outcomes look like in SMI—stability, functional improvement, and hospitalizations avoided.
  • A health-system partnership model proving coordinated SMI care can work at scale.

If you want to maintain the status quo, this isn’t the place. If you want to build what doesn’t exist yet—and change how an entire population receives care—keep reading.

Compensation & Benefits

Amae Health is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Base salary range for this role is $165,000 - $225,000 per year and will be adjusted to market cost and the compensation package may include equity based on the role. Total compensation includes comprehensive medical/dental/vision, unlimited PTO, parental leave, and programs built around employee well-being. We’ll share specifics during the interview process.

Amae Health is building the care platform, the precision medicine, and the frontier science that severe mental illness has never had. If you want to be part of creating something this hard and this important, something that has never been done, we’d like to talk.

More About Amae:

'Amae', pronounced ‘Ah-mai’, is a Japanese concept meaning the need to be in good favor with, and the ability to depend on, the people around oneself. It reflects our core belief that a strong support system is essential to build people up, strengthen their will to carry on and even to thrive in life. This mentality applies across our whole company – from the patients we serve to the team we’re building.

WHAT WE VALUE

We center care in all we do. Empathy is not a brand value. It’s how we make clinical decisions, build products, and treat each other.

We challenge convention. The existing system is the problem. We question it, we test alternatives, and we move with urgency when something works.

We take the work seriously, not ourselves. High standards and humanity are not in tension. We hold a hard bar for quality while leaving room for humor and levity.

Your job isn’t done until the job is done. We close gaps, we follow through, and we don’t hide behind titles or org charts.

We win together and fail together. We own outcomes as a team. We learn fast. We don’t do blame.

We hustle with humility. Speed matters. So does integrity. We assume best intent and stay grounded in the mission.

Amae Health is an equal opportunity employer and encourages all applicants from every background and life experience to apply.
