The Opportunity
This is a launchpad role for recent graduates who want to lead people and operations from day one. You'll join the team at our established Phillipsburg fulfillment center — stepping into a people-leader role on the operating floor, managing a team and a process, and building the foundation of a career in operations leadership.
No prior warehouse or management experience is required — we provide structured training. What matters most is that you've led before: on a team, in a club, on campus, in the military, or in a part-time job — and that you're excited to keep developing that skill in a fast-paced, hands-on environment where you'll help shape how Flexport moves global trade forward.
This role is onsite in Phillipsburg, NJ.
You Will
- Coach, manage, and develop a team of 30–100 (with training and support from your site leadership as you ramp up).
- Communicate policies to your team and act as the primary information source for the team, maintaining compliance and consistency, and taking corrective action when needed.
- Create, manage, and support recognition programs across your department.
- Support all safety programs and OSHA compliance to ensure a safe work environment for all associates; ensure procedures are followed for building security and product loss prevention.
- Be an integral part of our Operations team as an Area Manager at one of our largest fulfillment partners located across the country.
- Own performance reporting for your areas of responsibility within the FC, including on-time receiving and shipping, inventory accuracy, and packing quality.
- Hold yourself and your team to clear SLA expectations, providing concise verbal and written reports of performance and action plans when needed.
- Facilitate troubleshooting with cross-functional partners on fulfillment-related problems.
- Serve as an escalation point to help mitigate risks and resolve issues.
- Measure and respond to gaps in inventory accuracy, helping identify root causes and resolve them.
- Review defect rates to identify trends and surface opportunities to improve operations, both internally and across the network.
- Track learnings and best practices to contribute to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Help prioritize the resolution of systemic problems, working closely with our Growth and Engineering teams.
You Should Have
- A bachelor's degree completed within the last 12 months, or expected within the next few months.
- Demonstrated leadership experience — this can come from campus organizations, athletics, ROTC/military, student government, internships, or part-time or summer jobs. Formal people-management experience is not required.
- Strong problem-solving skills and comfort learning new processes quickly in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment.
- Strong computer literacy, including comfort with Google Sheets/Excel.
- Clear, confident written and verbal communication skills.
- A collaborative, personable approach with a strong affinity for working cross-functionally.
- Great attention to detail and an appreciation for the complexity behind consistent day-to-day operations.
- Willingness and ability to work any permanent shift, which may include overnights, holidays, and weekend overlap.
- Must be able to lift up to 49 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be willing and able to frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach, and to stand/walk for up to 10–12 hours.
- Must be able to work in an environment where noise levels and temperature vary (60–90°F, occasionally higher).
- Must be able to work on a secure mezzanine at a height of up to 40 feet (applies to buildings with mezzanines).
Nice to Have
- Coursework, internships, or part-time experience in warehousing, fulfillment, supply chain, or logistics.
- Exposure to SQL or other reporting/data tools.
- Experience collaborating with external partners or vendor
