We are seeking a high performing insurance specialist Senior Associate to join our market leading Commercial Litigation team in Melbourne

This role provides the successful candidate with the opportunity to:

  • Work on major litigation and advisory matters for blue chip corporates

The role

Working as part of our market recognised policyholder’s insurance practice within the Commercial Litigation team, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Associate to join our Melbourne team on a permanent basis. Working with Partner Sophy Woodward, you will join a high performing, supportive and down to earth team and enjoy working with prominent corporate clients across a variety of sectors. The work involves having carriage of insurance disputes and advisory work for policyholder clients.   

This role has a high level of client interaction and will see you managing client relationships, shaping the strategic direction of matters, working closely with counsel, drafting advices, preparing witness and expert evidence and having carriage of final and interlocutory proceedings. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to a highly driven and successful team being recognised as an Asia Pacific Band 1 ranked practice in Insurance (Policyholder) and Insurer: Non-contentious, and Band 2 ranked Legal500 insurance practice.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Minimum 5 years PQE within an insurance practice, or within a broader commercial litigation practice but with an interest in insurance
  • Demonstrated experience in a range of litigious matters and management of insurance disputes
  • Strong academic achievements
  • Familiarity with Supreme/Federal Court litigation
  • The ability to project manage and drive matters through to completion
  • A passion for mentoring, supervising and delegating work to more junior lawyers
  • A strong focus on delivering exceptional client service
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills; required for building effective client relationships and contributing to a positive team environment
