Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector communications team is hiring a senior principal communications representative who will report to the R&AD division communications manager. The candidate will work as a strategic advisor to the Research and Advanced Design (R&AD) division while also supporting the execution of the sector’s communications strategy. The candidate will lead all internal and external communications for selected R&AD captures and programs; have experience leading teams in a matrixed organization; thrives on the challenge of creating interest around R&AD capabilities and developing internal and external opportunities around business priorities and culture. This position will be based in one of three locations: El Segundo, CA.; Palmdale, CA; San Diego, CA or Melbourne, FL.

Essential Functions: Conduct public relations activities to improve and support company, division, and program objectives with the media, public, industry, stakeholders, and employees. This includes the ability to:

  • Coordinate with captures and programs to gain consensus on communications goals and content development
  • Work with enterprise Communities of Practice to develop, plan, and disseminate information via print, broadcast, and/or intranet/internet media
  • Work with captures and programs to ensure messaging and media engagement activities are aligned with division and sector goals and themes
  • Thrive in a dynamic fast-paced environment and demonstrate the ability to lead through change with professionalism and adaptability
  • Demonstrate confidence and independence in interactions with executive leaders while being a strategic thinker and strong problem solver with attention to detail.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing or a related field and a minimum of 8 years of experience, or a master’s degree in prior fields and 6 years of experience.

  • Experience building communications campaigns that drive business objectives while advancing thought leadership, and executing to completion

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong judgement, problem solving and organizational skills, and superb attention to detail.

  • Must be able to work on-site at one of the three locations and have own transportation to support programs at various local sites

  • Occasional travel beyond the listed areas may be required (up to 10%)

  • Must have a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Communications and leadership experience in the defense industry preferred

  • Experience working on next-generation air capabilities

Primary Level Salary Range: $101,400.00 - $176,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
