Capital Area Head Start is seeking a full time Inclusion Support Specialist to join our mission in providing a comprehensive child development program designed to give children a head start in life, empowering parents and strengthening families. The Inclusion Support Specialist provides guidance and resources to teaching staff and families in supporting children with disabilities with special education services. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Work with the inclusion team to coordinate the screening, identification and evaluation of children for possible disabilities
  • Implements individualized activities with children based on Individualized Education Programs (IEP)
  • Provide feedback and information regarding the development and implementation of  IEP
  • Promote an environment where children can safely learn and practice appropriate and acceptable behaviors
  • Provide teaching staff and families with suggestions on appropriate activities and how to adapt activities for children’s individualized needs
  • Track and monitor data to measure the impact of different strategies and approaches
  • Collaborate with the special services team, local school districts, and the intermediate unit

Position Details:

  •  $19.53 per hour, may increase based on education and/or experience
  • Salaried, Non Exempt position, Standard biweekly salary paid throughout the year, including summer months
  • Typical work hours are between 7:30AM and 4:30PM based on assigned center;
  • Location: Services provided  in Dauphin, Cumberland and Perry counties

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associates degree in early childhood education, special education, psychology or highly related field
  • Two years of experience working with young children
  • Knowledge of the mental health system and available disability services
  • Intermediate computer skills, ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel Outlook and learn web based systems
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Valid driver’s license and access to properly insured vehicle, or public transportation
  • Successful completion of pre-employment process, including Criminal History, MVR, Child Abuse and FBI clearances

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of experience working with preschool children in an integrated setting
  • Bi/multi-lingual 
  • Participation in Head Start or Early Head Start
