QGS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Qantas Airways and we’re responsible for providing ground handling services to the Qantas Group.  

As a Commissionaire, you will be responsible for supporting customers at Melbourne Domestic Terminal who require special assistance throughout their airport experience by providing a high-quality service. In providing a high-quality service, you will meet customers on arrival and support them with the check-in process.  This may include providing mobility assistance through the terminal and assisting customers through security to their gate of departure. In this role, you will be assisting special needs passengers with reduced mobility with boarding and disembarking the aircraft along with their luggage. In this role, you would be responsible to operate communication aids and computer equipment as required, including radio as well as wheelchairs, and other transport equipment 

From day one you'll be equipped with training and skills to help our customers feel comfortable to communicate their needs.  

The successful candidates must share the Qantas Shared Services goal of “making Qantas Ground Services the supplier of choice to Qantas and targeted clients producing profitable business for the Qantas Group”. Located within the Qantas Ground Services division, the role is critical to the safety, on time departure and overall smooth running of our operation. 

You’ll have: 

  • A current and valid provisional or full state or territory driver’s license  

  • The ability to work all shifts in our dynamic 7 day a week, rotational shift roster (meaning shifts will vary from week to week)  

  • The ability to repetitively push, lift and manoeuvre customers and their belongings  

  • Ability to walk and/or stand for long periods of time. 

  • Prior experience in care roles, where you have supported or cared for individuals  

  • Ability to work effectively within a team, but also worked well independently  

  • Confidence in making decisions and working to everchanging deadlines 

  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, handle challenges with a positive attitude, and persist through setbacks to achieve success 

  • Passion for providing a great customer experience, with a track record of exceeding customers’ expectations 

  • You’ll have a safety mindset and will work to all Work Health & Safety guidelines  

  • A hard-working nature and a positive ‘can do’ attitude  

  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment medical (Qantas funded)
