Job Summary

We are recruiting an experienced and proactive HR Operations Team Lead – Payroll and Employee Lifecycle to support HR service delivery across the UK and Ireland. Reporting directly to the UK & IE Front Office Manager, this role holds full accountability for the day‑to‑day management of Payroll and Employee Life Cycle processes within the Front Office. Collaboration is a core ABB value, and success in this role relies heavily on working closely with HR colleagues, business stakeholders, and global teams to ensure seamless, end‑to‑end HR operations. The Team Lead will drive high‑quality service delivery aligned to globally defined standards, while ensuring full compliance with UK and Irish legal and regulatory requirements.

Your Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll help run what runs the world, by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact.

-Work Model: Hybrid

  • Lead and oversee end‑to‑end HR operations across Payroll and the full Employee Life Cycle for the UK and Ireland.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, GDPR requirements, and local employment laws while executing key legal HR responsibilities.
  • Drive continuous improvement through performance monitoring, quality checks, feedback analysis, and targeted service enhancements.
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise for complex HR and payroll cases, acting as the escalation owner for critical issues.
  • Partner with HR leadership and key stakeholders to deliver best‑practice HR services and support global initiatives such as acquisitions or policy rollouts.

Qualifications for the Role

  • Extensive hands‑on experience in payroll processing within a complex organisation.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of payroll procedures, statutory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Strong proficiency in payroll systems, ERP platforms, and related HR technologies.
  • Proven analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to handle complex calculations and escalations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, service-driven environment.
  • A proactive, customer‑focused mindset with a commitment to accuracy, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Employment Taxes knowledge is beneficial for this role.
