Job Description
Associate, Corporate Credit
Brookfield is seeking a corporate credit analyst to assess investment opportunities across both private and public credit. Investment targets will primarily be focused on below investment grade ratings. This role will be investing across the capital structure ranging from first lien term loans to mezzanine and preferred equity, with an emphasis on first lien secured debt. The role is completely industry agnostic and will have exposure to other asset classes as well.
This is a dynamic role with a flexible mandate. The ideal candidate will be a team player that demonstrates exceptional communication skills, strong work ethic, an entrepreneurial attitude and a strong desire to learn and grow. The candidate will be expected to work on multiple deals simultaneously and is expected to know how to manage a workload. There will frequently be transactions in asset classes that are new to the team, so there will be an element of learning and discovery that requires strong analytical skills. An ideal background will be 2+ years of investment banking or buy side credit investing experience.
Key Responsibilities
Identify, screen and present new investment ideas
Underwrite investments and prepare investment committee materials - lead due diligence and perform fundamental analysis (i.e., financial modeling and analysis, 3rd party expert calls, bank analyst calls, etc.)
Coordinate execution - legal, accounting, compliance, ratings, operations, etc.
Review documentation - term sheets, credit agreements, etc.
Monitor investments
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree - preference for a major in Finance or Accounting
2+ years relevant work experience – investment banking or buy side credit investing experience
Experience and interest in credit analysis
Master in Finance or Accounting, CPA, MBA and/or working towards CFA is a plus
Strong analytical skills and advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate internally (i.e., management and different groups across the Brookfield organization) and externally (i.e., banks, sponsors, insurance clients, 3rd party experts, etc.)
Salary Range: $150,000 - $200,000
Our compensation structure is comprised of a base salary and a short-term incentive program (cash bonus). Cash compensation tends to vary based on geography to account for local market conditions and is set to be market competitive. Compensation decisions are based on a number of factors including relative experience, overall years of experience, industry experience, education and designations.
