Compensation Range:

$55,955.00 - $78,336.00

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Advancement Information Services, the Business Intel Developer works directly with Advancement Information Services and Advancement-wide colleagues to assist with the development, implementation, analytics, and management of reports for Advancement at the University of Rochester. The Business Intel Developer partners with staff to understand business challenges and creates meaningful solutions that address these challenges. Experience with SSRS, Oracle, SQL and relational databases is preferred. This position will assist the Senior Director, Advancement Information Services to build upon the strategic vision of the Associate Vice President of Advancement Services, interact with report requestors to discuss their needs and coordinate resources, collaborate with the Salesforce ascend team to ensure customers have accurate and timely reports, and assist in defining, implementing and maintaining policies and procedures in support of the reporting systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Report Design: 

  • Assist with the design and building of new reports; verifies logic and data analysis using advanced functionality within SQL, Crystal Reports, Tableau, and/or Salesforce.
  • Assist with the development, delivery, and maintenance of report templates for the Salesforce ascend reporting team.
  • Assist with the creation of new methods to make report design more efficient and effective.
  • Research best practices for reporting tools and implement them.
  • Communicate with report requestors to ensure reports are built to their specifications.
  • Assist with the writing of SQL and/or stored procedures to query the data out of the production system to efficiently display on the report in a timely manner.
  • Write reports while working independently with minimal direction.

Report Management: 

  • Assist the Senior Director with handling of reports.
  • Ensure all reports and dashboards conform to Advancement Reporting Standards.
  • Assist the Senior Director, Advancement Information Services in the development and maintenance of the reporting standards.
  • Communicate with the Salesforce ascend team for the creation of synonyms, tables and other procedures and coordinate the migration of report objects to production.
  • Assist the Salesforce ascend team with the security of reporting so they are properly assigned and working as expected.

Report Maintenance / Modifications: 

  • Assist with requests to modify or enhance existing reports; partners with customers to understand business requirements related to reporting applications.
  • Assist with altering SQL and/or stored procedures to capture the requested changes without altering the integrity of the data already presented on the report.
  • Ensure modifications still conform to reporting standards.
  • Use authorized version control software to handle coding and report changes while maintaining the history of reporting objects.

Report Quality: 

  • Performs proper testing and validation techniques to ensure accuracy and integrity of reported or extracted data and documents the test and validation processes used.
  • Verify the data displayed on reports is accurate and conforms to the business rules as stated the Advancement Information Services Policies and Procedures document.
  • Assist with testing data integrity within reports for accuracy.
  • Work with Salesforce ascend Team communicating any data concerns/discrepancies discovered in the process of testing.
  • Review code written by Reporting Team members to ensure their queries will result in displaying accurate information.
  • Makes recommendations for changes, as appropriate, in partnership with senior team members.

Report Direction / Salesforce ascend Reporting Team: 

  • Review new reports to ensure they use approved reporting methods and conform to the Reporting Standards. 
  • Provide technical guidance in the creation of new reports by the Salesforce ascend reporting team.
  • Participate in the “Tips and Tricks” meetings to share / learn the latest report methods and innovations. 
  • Make recommendations to the Senior Director for additional training, documentation or other adjustments.

Innovation and Documentation: 

  • Assist in developing solutions to address Advancement’s evolving reporting needs.
  • New ideas/solutions are needed for additional training, preferred types of reports, documentation, reporting structures, etc.
  • Attend conferences, professional development and meetings with peers to keep Advancement current with best practices in reporting.
  • Organize, documents and streamline the various reporting methods utilized by Advancement Services which includes SSRS and Tableau.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • A minimum of 2 years of related experience required
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Salesforce products, Oracle, SQL, SSRS, Crystal Reports, Tableau, and relational databases preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise with business reporting systems, database/data warehouse architectures, implementation, and maintenance preferred
  • Strong reporting and analytics skills preferred
  • Adept at project management preferred
  • Critical thinking and strong problem-solving capabilities preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills preferred
