The Sponsor Finance team, within our Canadian Commercial Banking platform, is part of BMO Financial Group and covers Private Equity-backed portfolio companies operating in various and diversified industries.

The team is responsible for marketing, managing, and monitoring a large commercial loan portfolio, supporting credit requirements and cross-selling efforts for other opportunities including subordinated debt and minority equity stake (with BMO Capital Partners), Asset Based Lending, equipment leasing, derivatives, cash management, syndication, trade finance and with other platforms such as BMO Wealth and BMO Capital Markets in our One Bank approach. The Sponsor Finance team assesses financing opportunities of $10mm or more within the Québec Inc. business community.

Job Overview:

The Analyst will join a team that is responsible for loan origination and account management of a growing portfolio of clients. The Analyst will support the Associates and the Directors in making approval recommendations as well as ongoing proactive independent monitoring of client portfolios and client financial performance. In addition, and as part of an ongoing team approach, the Analyst will work closely with the other team members to best serve and manage our existing clients and Sponsors relationships as well as growing the portfolio. The Analyst will prepare credit packages to make recommendations regarding risk, deal structure, and client requirements by analyzing financial and operational data of existing clients and new names to be onboarded.

Job Description:

  • Analyze financial information, agencies rating reports and other related materials.
  • Prepare transaction summaries, industry overviews and analyze companies from different industries.
  • Provide accurate financial analysis and risk assessment of new and existing customers.
  • Monitors covenants and borrowing base certificates of clients within assigned portfolio to identify deteriorating credit conditions and compliance with loan agreement.
  • Analyze credit information to support lending decisions for new, renewal and extension of loans, as well as to offer opinions regarding credit worthiness of existing or prospective clients.
  • Assist in negotiations of terms and conditions of loan agreements.
  • Help minimize BMO’s risk exposure by adhering to internal credit policies and procedures with respect to lending decisions.
  • Build relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Execute broader work or accountabilities depending on business needs.

Qualifications:

  • Master or MBA degree (finance / accounting, economics or related field) with a strong academic achievement or an undergraduate degree with 1-3 years of relevant experience. A CPA, CBV, CFA or other relevant professional designation or advanced degree, ongoing or completed, is an asset.
  • Well developed analytical and quantitative skills with a focus on financial and accounting analysis, as well as data and statistical analysis.
  • Strong computer literacy and technical skills as it relates to basic Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and collaboration skills with the ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks while meeting time sensitive deadlines.

Salary:

$54,500.00 - $101,500.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
