Oklahoma Children’s Hospital is home to Oklahoma’s only Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). The CICU frequently cares for the state’s most critical patients and some of the most complex cardiac congenital heart defects in the world. Our patient population is primarily infants and toddlers that need open heart surgery within the first few weeks or months of life, but we frequently care for kids of all ages with a variety of surgical and medical cardiac diagnoses requiring specialized and complex care. There is opportunity for growth and development in many specialty skills including nursing leadership, operating ECMO, continuous dialysis, and caring for patients with open chests. We are also developing the state’s first and only pediatric heart transplant program. We operate in a newly renovated 25 bed unit and have a dedicated support team including charges nurses, pediatric care associates, advanced practice providers, and attending physicians present around the clock. Our in unit nurse educator organizes and develops pediatric cardiac intensive care education designed to prepare you, grow you, and expand your skills and knowledge.
