Job Summary:

The registered pharmacy technician is responsible for assisting the pharmacists by performing technical duties such as checking and takes responsibility for all activities as set forth by the applicable College of Pharmacists. The Pharmacy Supervisor role is a successor role for the Registered Pharmacy Technician and back-ups for the other Regulated Technician roles as required. Must be registered as a practicing member and have  a license from the applicable college of pharmacy.

Specific Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities generally include but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for the technical and operational services in the Pharmacy Department.
  • Under Supervision of a Pharmacist perform the following as per guidelines set forth by Provincial College of Pharmacists.
  • Transcribe new medication therapy order and changes
  • Provide clinical support services such as completing medication histories, reviewing drug use and monitoring, basic drug information, refills into patient files, and fill, prepare, and/or package the medications.  
  • Receiving repeat prescriptions from health-care providers
  • Receive verbal prescriptions from prescribers, verify the accuracy and completeness of a pharmaceutical product prepared for release
  • Assist the patient to make informed decisions regarding the selection and use of drug administration devices, monitoring devices and health aids
  • Transferring and receiving prescriptions from other pharmacists or pharmacy technicians
  • Checking pharmaceutical products prepared by an unregulated pharmacy personnel
  • Assist patients and health care team members in understanding the scope, limitations and exceptions to third-party insurance coverage including coordination of benefits
  • Document drug distribution processes and outcomes i.e. medication errors, missing meds, etc
  • Compound, prepare sterile and non-sterile preparations,
  • Exercise professional judgment at all times and are able to recognize when the clinical expertise of the pharmacist is required
  • Provide exemplary customer service that meets the standards of McKesson Canada
  • Bill prescriptions through the pharmacy software ensuring all required documentation is adequate and appropriate including (but not limited to) accounts receivables, dosage and dosing intervals, third party billing restrictions, scheduled appointment dates, clinic locations, copayment management, coordination of benefits and assignment of benefits
  • Understand, recognize, and resolve third party billing issues
  • Manage site calendars, appointment changes, dispensing and shipping schedules
  • Adhere to all relevant guidelines including the established Standard Operating Procedures and all applicable regulatory requirements
  • Ensure prepared medications arrive to the appropriate destination in a timely matter
  • Assist in inventory management and reconciliation
  • Follow-up with patient for any outstanding accounts
  • Monitor site temperatures when available and report any variances directly to the operations manager
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with health care professionals, reimbursement coordinators, infusion coordinators, provincial ministries of health and private payers
  • Provide instructions on how to operate and demonstrate medical devices and administer injections as outline by provincial regulations
  • Submit adverse events and product complaints
  • Complete assigned training
  • Assist or take on additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervising pharmacist

Key Requirements:

Knowledge:

  • Pharmacy Technician Diploma
  • A valid Pharmacy Technician license in good standing with the College of Pharmacists
  • Validated aseptic training is an asset
  • Working knowledge of retail pharmacy practice and understanding of biologics and specialty medications

Skills and Abilities:

  • This position requires a significant degree of self-direction and independence
  • Possess strong working knowledge of Kroll and its capabilities
  • Possess technical skills (Words, Excel, Teams, Outlook)

Experiences:

  • 1-3 years of work experience in the pharmaceutical industry or retail pharmacy setting
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset

  • Communication: PSP, Navigation, INVIVA Clinics, Medical Clinics, Pharmacy, Patients
  • Direct Reports: N/A

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$41,700 - $69,500
