Role Overview

Nasuni is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead our Storage Network Protocols team within the India Innovation Center (IIC) in Hyderabad.

This team builds and evolves core components of Nasuni’s cloud-scale NAS platform, including NFS, SMB, CIFS, and Samba-based integrations. You will lead engineers responsible for high-availability mechanisms, clustering behavior, failover orchestration, and non-disruptive upgrade capabilities that power enterprise-grade reliability across global deployments.

This role is ideal for a technically deep engineering leader who understands systems programming, Linux internals, and distributed architectures—and who wants to lead a high-impact domain while developing strong engineers.

This is not a pure IC coding role, and it is not a multi-team Director role. It is a hands-on people leadership position with domain-level technical accountability.

Level & Scope Definition

In this role, you will:

• Directly manage a team of 6–10 engineers.
• Own delivery, quality, and technical direction for the Storage Network Protocols domain.
• Lead architecture discussions and design reviews within your domain.
• Guide implementation decisions in C/C++ and Linux-based systems.
• Partner with Cloud, QA, Product, and Customer Support to ensure performance and reliability at enterprise scale.
• Translate ambiguous product requirements into structured technical roadmaps and execution plans.
• Support root-cause analysis for complex production issues involving distributed storage and failover systems.

You are accountable for domain-level reliability, scalability, and upgrade safety, but not for multiple engineering organizations or company-wide architecture strategy.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team focused on storage protocols and HA systems.
• Drive architectural design reviews across for Nasuni’s communication protocols, e.g., NFS, SMB (SAMBA), FTP, and others.
• Oversee development of clustering, failover, and non-disruptive upgrade mechanisms in Linux environments.
• Ensure high performance, reliability, and scalability of NAS appliance components.
• Establish engineering best practices for code quality, automated testing, and observability.
• Collaborate with global engineering teams to ensure seamless platform integration.
• Translate product requirements into actionable technical plans with clear milestones.
• Hire, mentor, and develop engineers to build long-term technical depth in Hyderabad.

Must-Have Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
• 2+ years of direct people management experience.
• Proven experience leading teams building distributed systems or storage platforms.
• Strong background in C and/or C++ development in Linux environments.
• Deep understanding of operating systems, multi-threading, file systems (e.g., XFS, EXT), and I/O subsystems.
• Experience with high-availability systems, clustering technologies (e.g., Pacemaker, Corosync), or failover architectures.
• Experience conducting architectural design reviews and guiding technical tradeoff decisions.
• Ability to translate complex product requirements into structured technical execution plans.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with NFS, SMB, CIFS, or Samba-based storage systems.
• Experience with hypervisors such as ESX, Hyper-V, KVM, or OpenStack.
• Exposure to cloud storage backends (AWS or Azure).
• Experience with PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

Ideal Qualifications

• Experience modernizing on-prem storage systems into cloud-native architectures.
• Contributions to open-source storage or systems-level projects.
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale distributed deployments.
• Exposure to Golang, Java, or other systems-adjacent languages.
