This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will direct and manage an integrated product team of launch vehicle Umbilical System to support current and future New Glenn program needs.  You will set team technical direction requiring a wide application of advanced engineering principles, theories, and concepts through new product development, introduction and launch operation.    
 
Additionally, you will manage associated schedules, budgets, and forecasts, along with building the team and managing personnel and performance.  In this role, you will be the leader of the team with impact on all aspects of launch vehicle fluid systems engineering. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and personnel leadership to subsystem development organization within New Glenn Business Unit.
  • Lead Integrated Product Team on new product development and introduction of New Glenn insourced components for Stage I and Stage II Umbilical System.
  • Responsible for employee life cycle including performance management, absence and timekeeping approval, task/project management, training, and career development. 
  • Build and maintain umbilical component design life cycle scope, basis of estimate and schedules, support annual operating plan budgets and staffing requirements to include expense and procurement approvals. 
  • Establish, manage, and report on component and development metrics including scope, development progress, schedule, cost, risk.
  • Championing technical processes, best practices, and tool development around the focused area of the umbilical component development design life cycle. 
  • Lead team to develop and document component design for downstream integration with manufacturing processes, quality processes, and operations elements to include configuration management, verification planning, and test requirements generation. 
  • Active support in production, assembly, integration, functional checkout, and operations. 
  • Coach, mentor and technically assist other engineers and team members. 
  • Champion continuous improvement in safety, quality, cost and performance of product and project.
  • Respond to all facets of customer’s vehicle operability questions on launch vehicle umbilical components during all life-cycle phases of design, development, test, and launch. 
  • Travel as vital to facilitate efficient work and teamwork.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of demonstrated experience in project management, engineering, or new product introduction.
  • Minimum B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Strong experience in applying Systems Engineering and Project Management practices in delivering high quality product and project.
  • Experience managing direct reports in an integrated product development environment.
  • Demonstrated ability of driving development design lifecycle of aerospace/aeronautical vehicle fluid systems.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-functional teams during design, procurement and build cycles of aerospace/aeronautical vehicles. 
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Experience with the design, fabrication, assembly, and test of aerospace / aeronautical systems.
  • Experience developing and implementing test plans for analysis and qualification of components.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12+ years directly related experience.
  • M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience developing new aerospace processes and refining existing ones.
  • Demonstrated experience on a flight production program.
  • Familiarity with PLM / CAD, analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with cost estimation tools and practices.
  • Familiarity with P6 and project scheduling fundamental.
  • PMP certified.


 

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $167,088.00-$233,923.20

Other site ranges may differ
