We’re looking for an Optical Engineer to join the Snap Lab team at Snap Inc!
What you’ll do:
Perform detailed optical design & tolerancing of augmented reality display & test systems
Generate component specifications & interface with suppliers
Conduct advanced analysis of optical systems (e.g., straylight)
Collaborate with mechanical engineers on component mounting & system assembly
Present to cross functional teams at design reviews
Design, build, & validate lab setups for testing optical components & systems
Complete root cause analysis of optical component & system failure mechanisms
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of sequential & non-sequential optical design software (e.g., Zemax, CODE V, LightTools)
Knowledge of scientific programming (e.g., MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW)
Knowledge of Optical alignment & breadboarding
Comfort with rapidly changing or ambiguous requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in optical engineering, physics, or related field
3+ years of experience in optical engineering
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with near-eye displays, microdisplays (e.g., LCoS, DLP, OLED), polarization, rapid prototyping, & basic electronics

Compensation
In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The starting pay may be negotiable within the salary range for the position. These pay zones may be modified in the future.
The base salary range for this position is $138,000-$207,000 annually.
This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
