Overview Of Role

Global Player allows listeners to enjoy all of Global’s radio brands, award-winning podcasts, and expertly curated playlists, in one place in app, on web, on TV, in car and on smart speakers.

As a Lead Product Designer at Global, you will head up a small product design team responsible for the portfolio of Global Player products used by millions each month. Working with multiple cross-functional squads your team will deliver new features and functionality to support the business in achieving its ambitious goals. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Management (20%): You’ll lead and inspire a passionate team, responsible for hiring, career development and performance management. 
  • Strategy & Leadership (30%): Develop and present ideas, designs and prototypes to stakeholders and peers with confidence, ensuring day to day work is driving the product towards your clear vision for the design of the product. Work closely with digital product leadership on future planning, build relationships and collaborate with other functions across the business.
  • Delivery (30%): Oversee the product design output, allocating and balancing resource, identifying and addressing challenges. Ensure usage of a design system, and consistency across the various platforms and squads.
  • Product Design (20%): You’ll be expected to carry out the role of Product designer to support delivery of key projects and ensure squads are well supported.

What Success Looks Like

In your first few months, you’ll have:

  • Gained a detailed understanding of the workings of Global’s business across our Radio, Commercial and Digital divisions.
  • Fully understood the goals of the Global Player team and how these support Global’s digital strategy and objectives.
  • Taken ownership of, and aligned, your team and their goals, ensuring delivery against them.
  • Established strong working relationships with stakeholders across the business.
  • Led the design of product features
  • Established a vision and direction for the design of our core products

What You’ll Need

  • Deep knowledge and expertise in end-to-end (UX and UI) product design, typically 8+ years of professional experience
  • You’ll have demonstrable experience in designing products and features for some or all of these areas: native apps (iOS/Android), desktop and responsive web, smart speakers and TV interface.
  • A compelling portfolio of work that demonstrates both that you think deeply about design and that you can execute high-quality design work 
  • A passion for identifying, measuring, analysing and solving real user problems
  • Experience in leadership of a Design team/function
  • Experience of working with cross-functional Product development teams
  • Understanding of Agile delivery methods and how the design process fits into the team’s ways of working throughout the product lifecycle
  • Experience with extending and maintaining component libraries across different products 
  • Ability to effectively prioritise your own and your team’s work, communicating progress to a range of stakeholders
  • Strong command of industry standard design tools and prototyping software (e.g. InVision, Sketch, Figma) 
  • Strong skills in hand sketching, templating, rapid digital prototyping
  • Experience with analytic and research tools such as Google Analytics, Amplitude or equivalent. Applications such as UserZoom, Optimal Workshop and Toluna would be ideal.
