We are a very profitable and fast-growing healthcare startup—a small and mighty team of 200 helping people find and enroll in ACA health coverage. As the largest health insurance exchange for the ACA, enrolling more individuals than healthcare.gov and all our competitors, we have helped over 10 million people enroll in health coverage to date in 2024. We're a mission-driven team that advocates for and cares deeply about the people we serve.
We're a double bottom-line company: revenues and enrollments in ACA coverage. The ACA brings high-quality, comprehensive, affordable health coverage within reach for low-income Americans, and we exist to make that promise a reality. Your contribution will help hundreds of thousands of people navigate the complex and confusing health insurance industry and enable them to access health care when needed.
We are committed to building a team balanced in representation to serve best the people who use our products. We believe in creating inclusive and equitable spaces that build trust and respect and foster a sense of belonging. These values are at the core of our culture and will continue to lead our organization to successful outcomes.
We are looking for a Senior Product Engineer with over 6 years of experience to join our dynamic, diverse team and take HealthSherpa's technology to the next level. You are comfortable working across the Ruby on Rails and ReactJS development stack and passionate about learning new technologies. You believe in using data and analysis to form conclusions and refine thinking. You build products and systems quickly, but maintainably.
You'll report directly to the VP of Product and Engineering and work on a pod with other engineers, product managers, and designers to build quality products that help improve the lives of millions of Americans.
The base salary range is $155,000 - $210,000 + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills and experience. For additional clarification, the range covers two sub-levels: Senior Product Engineer I and Senior Product Engineer II.
Build, deliver, and operate high-quality features and systems across the entire tech stack (frontend and backend) for users
Improve the product our carriers and agents leverage, including CRM, enrollment, and tracking tools
Expand our product by releasing innovations into new lines of business and expanding our presence in new states
Release large, impactful roadmap items and platform commitments
Collaborate in a cross-functional team that includes engineering and non-engineering teammates
Propel the evolution of our codebase for better quality and scalability and agility
Operate in a DevOps environment where teams deliver value multiple times a day
Experience with the full software development lifecycle, supporting features post-launch in an agile or lean environment
Experience with Ruby on Rails or similar back-end frameworks
Experience with ReactJS or similar front-end frameworks
Experience with SQL
Experience at designing relational data models and re-usable components for software features and systems
Experience working across the development stack and developing maintainable software designs in iterative, incremental ways
A product-minded approach, with the ability to think through problems and solutions from the lens of the user
Remote-first company (US-based remote only)
Great compensation package at a high-growth, profitable company
Excellent benefits package that includes health, vision, and dental coverage for you, your spouse, and dependents
HSA/FSA options with corresponding contribution limits
Monthly grocery stipend and home internet reimbursement
401K w/ a match after a grace period
Life and AD&D coverage
Disability insurance (Short and Long Term)
Parental leave
Four (4) weeks of paid vacation in addition to paid holidays
