Position Overview

The Admissions Specialist II, under general supervision, provides high-quality customer service to students, faculty, and staff across multiple communication channels. This position offers detailed information regarding university services, admissions requirements, academic programs, registration procedures, advising services, residency guidelines, transcript evaluations, and basic financial aid navigation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Admissions Processing & Records Management

  • Processes admissions applications and all official supporting documentation in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Enters, update, and maintain accurate applicant records in the Technolutions Slate application and Banner student information system (SIS).

  • Verifies official transcripts, test scores, residency documentation, and other required application materials to ensure accuracy.

  • Assists students by explaining and articulating course transferability and placement metrics involved in the admissions and registration pipeline.

Student & Campus Communication

  • Provides frontline communication support in tandem with the admissions processing team to maintain optimal phone queue and email coverage.

  • Responds to detailed inquiries regarding university admission requirements, application statuses, and institutional deadlines via phone, email, and in person.

  • Conducts presentations and informational sessions on admissions criteria and academic programs for visiting groups or student cohorts.

Operational & Team Support

  • Assists with operational reporting, data integrity reviews, and the tracking of missing application materials.

  • Provides operational support for on-campus recruitment events, orientation sessions, and specialized admissions activities.

  • Performs general office duties and related administrative tasks to support the daily functions of the Office of Admissions.

  • Assists in managing student worker schedules and delegating daily processing tasks when needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Education – Associate degree in an applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience – Two years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience handling high-volume customer service or processing in a higher education admissions or enrollment management setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications

  • Functions and operations of higher education institutions

  • Admissions rules and regulations

Ability to:

  • Multitask and work collaboratively with others

  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

  • Present information clearly and concisely

  • Utilize technology to track and process students through admissions processes

Additional Information

A federal proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025. Texas A&M University-Kingsville will not pay this fee. If immigration sponsorship may be required for employment, consult with private immigration counsel, at the individual’s expense, is recommended to determine whether the individual’s current immigration status would make a potential offer of employment from Texas A&M University-Kingsville subject to this fee.

In addition, on January 27, 2026, Texas Governor Abbott issued a moratorium on the filing of any new H-1B petitions unless approved by the Texas Workforce Commission. Accordingly, if sponsorship for employment visa status is required now or in the future, this moratorium may affect the university’s ability to employ the selected final candidate. TAMUK will adhere to applicable regulations regarding visa opportunities.
