Whether it’s streamlining operations, enhancing customer experience, or reimagining internal systems — we want people who can make Careem work smarter and move faster.
About the Role
We are looking for a Legal Counsel to support our Everything App business across Jordan and UAE. In this role, you will be a strategic partner to the business, covering a wide range of general commercial matters. We are looking for a colleague who values collaboration over hierarchy - someone sharp enough to handle complex deals and regulatory matters but grounded enough to support the rest of the team wherever needed.
What you’ll do
- Commercial & Strategic Advisory: Partner with General Managers and teams across Jordan, UAE, and KSA to provide practical legal guidance. You will handle general commercial matters while working alongside our payments subject matter expert on legal and regulatory issues related to payments and financial services.
- Contract Management: Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements with business partners, vendors, and customers. This includes driving general operational deals to closure as well as securing specific agreements for Careem Pay that align with commercial interests and risk management standards.
- Product Counsel: Draft, review, and update customer-facing legal documents for new and existing Careem products and services, ensuring they meet all legal and regulatory requirements
- Governance & Disputes: Manage local litigation and external counsel efficiently. You will also oversee corporate governance matters, including documentation for board meetings, corporate filings, and compliance with company policies.
- Risk & Regulation: Monitor regulatory landscapes to anticipate risks, with a specific focus on researching developments in the financial services sector. You will identify potential exposures and work proactively with the business to develop practical solutions and mitigation strategies.
What you’ll need
- Fluent in English and Arabic (both oral and written)
- Minimum of a law degree from a reputable university
- Active bar membership
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience post qualification/admission to bar/law society.
- Demonstrated experience advising on payments, fintech, or financial services regulations is a strong plus.
- Strong experience of contract analysis, review and drafting.
- Commercial mindset and a true team player
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal matters to non-legal stakeholders clearly.
- Comfortable in working with shifting priorities, ambiguity and fast-paced environments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
What we’ll provide you
We offer colleagues the opportunity to drive impact in the region while they learn and grow. As a full time Careem colleague, you will be able to:
- Work and learn from great minds by joining a community of inspiring colleagues.
- Put your passion to work in a purposeful organisation dedicated to creating impact in a region with a lot of untapped potential.
- Explore new opportunities to learn and grow every day.
- Work 4 days a week in office & 1 day from home, and remotely from any country in the world for 30 days a year with unlimited vacation days per year. (If you are in an individual contributor role in tech, you will have 2 office days a week and 3 to work from home.)
- Access to healthcare benefits and fitness reimbursements for health activities including gym, health club, and training classes.
