Summary of the position:

The Fabrication Assembler position requires an individual to perform several duties as defined within the Assembly family.

This is a 2nd Shift position located at the Hitachi Global Air Power manufacturing plant in Michigan City, Indiana. 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Read, interpret, and follow basic engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other written instructions or procedures to accurately assemble steel panels, doors, and supports.
  • Utilize handheld tools such as a rivet gun, hand-held screw, and drill gun.
  • Perform work for loading and/or unloading parts on the powder coat line.
  • Perform quality work checks to ensure the product meets quality standards.
  • Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are identified.
  • Rework and/or repair assembled equipment and products according to engineering specification changes.
  • Safe material handling processes, including forklift driving and overhead crane operating.
  • Safely execute daily production, quality, and on time delivery requirements.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly at each shift.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School education or equivalent

Professional experience:

  • Minimum of 1-3 years’ previous manufacturing assembly preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required (ie. Spreadsheets, data entry, email)
  • Understand basic engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other written instructions or procedures.
  • Basic reading skills necessary to perform the functions of the job.
  • Working with various hand and pneumatic tools and various measuring tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints.

  • Lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Lifting over 35 lbs. or assistance from another associate.
  • Physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reaching, kneeling and working in awkward positions, lifting over your head at times.
  • Safety Requirements:
    • Must understand and comply with the 5 Cardinal Rules.
    • Participate in EHS quarterly audits, if required.
    • Required to wear the proper PPE equipment for the work area.
    • Required to attend scheduled toolbox and safety meetings.
    • Must immediately report injuries or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
