Shady Grove Medical Center seeks to hire an experienced Health Information Management Tech for our Health Information Management Department who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing.

As a Health Information Management Tech, you will:
• Must maintain a high level of confidentiality, following HIPAA rules and regulations.
• Maintain regulatory requirements, including all TJC, CMS, and corporate regulations.
• Demonstrates excellent customer service skills to both internal and external customers.
• Communicates to management when issues arise.
• Independently problem solves and identifies opportunities for improvement.
• Completes in-services and educational requirements.
• Actively participates in staff meetings.
• Promotes teamwork and a positive work environment.
• Retrieves all discharged records/ loose patient documentation from Nursing Units and other ancillary departments as required.
• Reconciles retrieved medical records against patient discharge lists.
• Prep, index, quality control (QC), and validate all discharges in a timely manner.
• Follow-up with any missing records immediately and consistently with clinical areas until obtained.
• Reports any missing charts greater than 48 hours to Supervisor for follow-up.
• Identify all missing charts on spreadsheet.
• Prepares all documents according to department specifications for proper scanning into EMR.
• Single document scan or batch scan loose work received from the clinical areas in a timely manner.
• Prioritizes tasks to insure timely processing of patient information.
• Ensures all documents are properly labeled by document type, patient name and patient encounter. 
• Ensures all documents have correct barcode and replaces with correct labels as needed.
• Incorporates all thinned portions and loose work of the medical records being prepped.
• Efficiently navigates all computer systems such as Cerner, Kofax (scanning), Forms on demand, as needed.
• Identifies and troubleshoot issues with applications, escalating issues as appropriate.
• Assists or helps meet department performance standards and organizational targets by processing records in a timely and efficient manner.

Qualifications include:
• RHIT preferred
• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in a medical records department; or medical office setting 
• Must have strong customer service skills.
• Strong attention to detail.  
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• PC skills in Windows environment required.  Knowledge of desktop applications to include Word and Excel is helpful.
• Good organizational and analytical skills.
• Ability to speak, read and write in fluent English.
• Bilingual preferred

Work Schedule:

  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Hours per Week: 40 hrs/week
  • Typical Daily Schedule: 7:00 AM–3:30 PM Monday through Friday, Additional job duty is prepping medical records as needed 
  • Shift Type: Day
  • Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend rotation
  • Holiday Requirements: Follow company holiday calendar

Pay Range:

$18.40 - $23.48

If the salary range is listed as $0 or if the position is Per Diem (with a fixed rate), salary discussions will take place during the screening process.

Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), this position is classified as:
