Role Definition

The Portfolio Manager role within Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division (EPD) is a dynamic and strategic position focused on fostering relationships with key global accounts, including leaders in the data center and technology sectors such as Google, Meta, AWS and Microsoft. With these accounts signaling significant growth over the next 3-5 years, the Portfolio Manager will play a critical role in ensuring the seamless execution of projects and alignment with Caterpillar’s commitment to delivering sustainable and reliable solutions.  


Key Responsibilities

  • Customer and Dealer Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with project teams, dealers, and Caterpillar factories to ensure alignment and successful execution of projects.

  • Project Milestone Tracking: Lead the tracking of critical project milestones, including order entry, release, shipping and commissioning startup, to ensure timely delivery and minimize risks.

  • Risk Management and Problem Solving: Proactively identify potential obstacles or risks to project success and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Communication and Collaboration: Act as a bridge between Caterpillar factories, dealers, customers, and project site teams ensuring clarity and alignment on project objectives and execution.

  • Pipeline Management: Oversee regional demand forecasting and fulfillment, prioritizing key projects and ensuring efficient resource allocation.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Track regional performance metrics such as On-Time Performance (OTP) and responsiveness.

  • Manage regional forecasting and demand planning.

  • Develop strategies for effective project execution and change order management.

  • Optimize communication and processes to reduce variability and enhance project outcomes.


What You Will Bring (Skills & Experiences):
 

Relationship Management:

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including global customers, Caterpillar factories and dealer.

  • Skilled in navigating complex, cross-functional teams to achieve alignment and foster collaboration.

Project Management:

  • Expertise in leading end-to-end project milestone tracking, including order entry, release, shipping and commissioning startup.

  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing deadlines, and ensure on-time project deliver.

  • Skilled in change order management to adapt to evolving project needs without compromising quality or deliver timelines.

  • Proficiency in Project Management tools, software, Power BI, Lean Six Sigma or similar

Risk Assessment and Mitigation:

  • Ability to proactively identify project risks and obstacles.

  • Experience in developing and executing mitigation strategies to ensure project success.

  • Strong analytical skills to anticipate potential pitfalls and design preemptive solutions.

Strategic Planning:

  • Proficient in demand forecasting, pipeline management, and resource allocation.

  • Skilled in developing and executing strategic project plans to align with long-term business goals.

  • Ability to influence decision-making through data-driven insights.

Communication and Stakeholder Alignment:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for conveying complex technical information to diverse audiences.

  • Skilled in bridging communication gaps between internal teams, dealers and customers.

  • Adept at crafting persuasive narratives to align stakeholders on project goals and strategies.

  • Ability to handle customer escalations with urgency and poise.

Technical Excellence:

  • Knowledge of power generation systems, including equipment cycle times and front-end scheduling; data center applications

Leadership and Influence:

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams to drive alignment and collaboration.

  • Skilled in mentoring and guiding team members to achieve their best performance.

  • Experienced in influencing decision-making at all levels of an organization.

Summary Pay Range:

$123,480.00 - $185,280.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
