Summary of Job Duties:

The Decedent Affairs Coordinator (Histotechnologist) manages the Decedent Affairs process from the time of death to release of remains. Communicates information to morgue manager, funeral homes, or other parties as necessary and allowed by HIPPA policies. Performs critical identification functions to ensure proper disposition and processing of decedent remains in compliance with Joint Commission standards and hospital policy. Maintains proper documentation for all processes. Consults with appropriate departments for sensitive issues (i.e. Risk Management, Legal Affairs, Anatomical Gifts, etc.).


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in laboratory science, medical laboratory technology degree obtained from an accredited institution with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry that will include 6 credit hours of Biology & 6 credit hours of Chemistry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of Clinical Laboratory, anatomic pathology or patient care experience.

  • Experience in handling sensitive subject matter and/or interacting with grieving families


Additional Information:

Job Requirements:

  • Performs all quality control and preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and temperature control required by regulatory entities. Assist in lab inventory control, cleanliness and organization.
  • Floor lead on productivity delegation, training, and critical thinking.
  • Ensuring proper handling and processing of all specimens received in the lab, including but not limited to, patient identification, specimen protocol triage, specimen and lab troubleshooting, grossing, embedding, frozen sections, etc.
  • Provides histological duties as coverage in the Histology lab.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
