Cleveland Clinic Laboratory caregivers perform the diagnostic and consultative services that are the foundation for our world-class care. We execute 20 million tests each year, operating at a scale that helps us serve more patients in more ways than ever before. 

It is a variable shift with rotating weekends and holidays. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Conduct quality laboratory testing and result reporting.  

  • Ensure that results are reported in compliance with the goals and standards of the department, hospital and applicable accrediting organizations (AHCA, CLIA, COLA and JCAHO).  

  • Identify each patient specimen and test order.  

  • Ensure specimen integrity and identification while resolving specimens that do not meet testing criteria.  

  • Identify and resolve pending specimen results from the laboratory information system.  

  • Report pertinent information (panic values, instrument malfunctions, testing delay, reagent or supply depletion, etc.) to the physician, patient care area or supervisor.  

  • Note “dates opened” and “expiration dates” on reagents, controls, etc., and only use until their expiration date.  

  • Follow safety and troubleshooting procedures, ensure instrument operation, follow quality control policies and document quality control.  


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Associate’s degree in chemical sciences, physical sciences, biological sciences, medical technology or a related field.  

  • Licensed in the State of Florida at the technologist level.  

  • At least one specialty (microbiology, immunohematology or all licenses).  


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical sciences, physical sciences, biological sciences, medical technology or a related field. 

  • Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).  

  • One year of clinical experience.
