Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct preoperative interviews and assessments to capture patient information.
- Verify patient identity, surgical site, and informed consent.
- Prepare the OR by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile fields.
- Ensure that surgical supplies and medications specific to the procedure are available.
- Manage non-sterile activities, such as positioning, equipment management, and documentation.
- Coordinate with different departments (anesthesia, pre-op/PACU, Sterile Processing/Materials, etc.) to ensure a smooth workflow.
- Act as a patient advocate, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the surgery.
- Ensure proper handover and communication during transition of phases or changes in staffing. - Respond quickly to intraoperative emergencies.
- Document necessary information in patient chart and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced nurses.
Nurses in a multi-service OR must be adaptable, organized, and proficient in various surgical procedures, as they often work across different specialties such as orthopaedics, general surgery, urology, GYN, etc.

Qualifications

Education Associate's Degree Nursing required or Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Registered Nurse [RN - State License] - Generic - HR Only required Experience Clinical nursing experience 0-1 year required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Familiarity with the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment. - Knowledgeable of the care required by respective age groups for which care is being provided. - Ability to maintain confidentiality and secure sensitive information. - Knowledge of medical terminology. - Excellent verbal and communication skills. - Ability to accurately screen and triage acute patients.
