Senior Manager, Ethics and Compliance Investigations

 About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented person to join Gilead’s Ethics & Compliance Investigations team.  The ideal candidate will manage and oversee the organization’s ethics hotline, ensuring that all reports are handled promptly, confidentially, and in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Moreover, this individual will play a crucial role in influencing Gilead’s ethical standards, ensuring compliance with regulations and promoting the company’s ethical culture which is rooted in a commitment to doing the right thing.

Location:  Foster City, California

Responsibilities:

  • Manage misconduct concerns raised including from the Ethics Hotline, ensuring its operation as a central and effective channel for reporting and misconduct and addressing ethical concerns throughout the organization.
  • Assess and manage compliance concerns reported from various sources, emphasizing our commitment to ethical conduct and ensure reports are triaged appropriately to reach the right team.
  • Maintain accurate records of ethics and compliance activities and reports of misconduct while maintaining strict confidentiality throughout the reporting and/or investigation process.  
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to promote awareness of the Ethics Hotline and other reporting channels to cultivate an ethical “speak up” culture rooted in doing what’s right.
  • Partner closely with the Employee Relations & Litigation & Investigation teams and other relevant functions to create a seamless partnership and alignment of core strategies. 
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to recommend, determine, and influence appropriate courses of action including trend identification, root causal analyses and remediation.
  • Develop and execute protocols for receiving, documenting, and responding to reports made through various sources including the Ethics Hotline, ensuring a commitment to transparency, confidentiality, and accountability. 
  • Assist in the preparation of reports for senior management, Board of Directors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Propose and provide training and awareness programs on ethics and compliance issues to employees and other stakeholders.
  • Stay abreast of industry best practices, regulatory changes, and emerging risks related to ethics and compliance. 

Minimum Education & Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience in ethics and compliance, risk management, or related field, preferably within the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven ability to assess and manage compliance concerns reported from various sources, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to ethical conduct. 
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to ethics, compliance, and corporate governance. 
  • Experience in collaborating with key stakeholders to determine appropriate courses of action and aligning ethics and compliance efforts with organizational objectives. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues, develop effective strategies, and make informed recommendations in high-pressure situations. 
  • Demonstrated approach to operating in a culture of continuous improvement and adaptability, particularly within changing regulatory environments.
  • Strong report writing skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely document findings and recommendations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

The salary range for this position is: $154,020.00 - $199,320.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
