Research Scientist III – Computational Chemistry 

Austin TX

Tokyo Electron America, Inc., a subsidiary of Tokyo Electron Limited, a global, multi-billion dollar corporation and a leader in the semiconductor equipment industry.  TEL is currently seeking a Research Scientist to join our Clean Track Advanced Technology Group (ATG) in Austin, TX to complement our advanced photolithography development team with a focus on EUV lithography modeling.

Position Summary:

This position within the TEA ATG CT team will involve the use of chemical engineering fundamentals and principles to develop, optimize and design new and existing advanced photolithography applications for the Clean Track business unit.  The position requires expertise in transport phenomena, thermodynamics, chemical reactions and reaction kinetics while having the ability to development predictive models and apply them to semiconductor industry applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Build physical-chemical and atomistic scale models to better understand and optimize semiconductor lithography processes.
  • Modeling chemical reactions and resist develop processes on semiconductor surfaces.
  • Building models into simulation software to optimize tool and process design.
  • Participating in system engineering specification development, system documentation and implementation of a system prototype.
  • Interfacing with development team to define project strategy and deliverables.
  • Fully documenting work to provide colleagues with enough detail to maintain engineering simulations and/or code.
  • Strong emphasis is placed on candidates that can find solutions to difficult problems through structured project management while working in a team environment.
  • Excellent communications skills are considered critical. The candidate will communicate project goals and status updates internally.
  • Some international travel will be required.

Education and Experience:

  • The candidate must have a PhD degree in Chemistry, Physics or equivalent field specializing in Computational Chemistry.
  • Experience modeling atomic interactions and reactions with molecular dynamics software is required.
  • Molecular dynamics first principles calculation experience required.
  • Experience with LAMMPS software is required.
  • Strong project management experience is required.
  • Strong technical writing ability is required.
  • Excellent presentation and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to execute tasks with minimal oversight is required.
  • Experience in coding with MATLAB, Python, Julia, R, etc. to solve technical problems is desired.
  • Knowledge of the semiconductor industry is desired.
  • 3D Monte Carlo simulation experience desired.
  • Photoelectron Monte Carlo simulation experience desired.
  • DFT simulations experience is desired.
  • Quantum mechanics first principles calculation experience desired.
  • Experience with Gaussian software is desired.
  • Fluent in Japanese is desired but optional.

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required, which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 35 pounds. This position also requires 4 to 6 hours per day at a computer screen/keyboard.
