Position Purpose:The Manager, Government Relations will represent and advance The Home Depot's government relations agenda before elected officials and government decision-makers primarily at the state and local levels. Provides input for an annual action plan identifying key government relations objectives and priorities at the state and local levels that will benefit the company's top and bottom lines and create shareholder value.
Key Responsibilities:- 20% Develop and implement government relations strategies and legislative agenda for primary responsibility states. Those states will be determined based on the background and experience of the manager, government relations.
- 10% Responsible for following all election laws and to enforce compliance and reporting by team.
- 20% Responsible for building and maintaining relationships on behalf of The Home Depot with state elected and appointed officials such as governors, Lt. governors, attorneys general and legislative leaders as well as county and city officials such as county board members, mayors and city councilmembers.
- 20% Manage state and local legislative and regulatory agenda including tracking legislation at the state and local level. Responsible for working with internal business partners to develop positions and communicating views and influencing state and local officials.
- 20% Manage outside consultants, state retail associations and partnerships with national public policy and legislative groups. Develop and manage budget for multi-state region that includes dues and subscriptions, travel, contributions and consulting/professional fees.
- 10% Develop and maintain relationships with Home Depot internal departments and executives to identify operational issues requiring legislative action.
Direct Manager/Direct Reports:- Senior Manager, State/Local Government Relations
- No direct responsibility for supervising others.
Travel Requirements:- Typically requires overnight travel 20% to 50% of the time.
Physical Requirements:- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Working Conditions:- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications:- Must be eighteen years of age or older.
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:- Must have experience working for a state legislature, governor's office, large city/county office or previous experience in government relations, public affairs, or lobbying at Fortune 500 company or trade association.
- Government experience or a proven track record handling government relations for a Fortune 200 company or trade association is desired.
Minimum Education:- The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

- Manager will be one of the company's primary spokespeople/interfaces with key state and local elected officials as well as organizations and community groups related to the company's top issues.
